Amherst finished a distant second with 290 points followed by defending national champion Emory in third with 261 points. Rounding out the top five are Calvin with 251 points in fourth and Denison amassed 239 points for fifth.
The final night of competition started and ended well for the Ladies. Junior Jaime Straub notched her first career individual national title with a victory in the opening 1,650-yard freestyle event in 17:00.08. Right on her heels was senior Rebecca Allison while top seed, Kaitlin Marko of Wheaton finished third.
Brittany Sasser continued on her tear en route to her third-consecutive 200 backstroke title. She was well off her morning record-swim of 1:57.55, but was well ahead of Kenyon's Carolyn Barer and Amanda Nicholson of Williams.
The 100 free offered a plethora of the big names - Ertel, Weima, Preyss, and Westby - but the big winner was Michelle Coombs of SUNY-New Paltz. Coombs broke her own varsity and conference record and is NP's first national champion since Louis Petto won the 100 and 200 freestyle in 1994.
Kaitlyn Orstein avenged her upset loss in the 400 IM with a convincing win in the 200 breaststroke. She put distance on the field with every lap leaving a race for second. Moira Price (Springfield) out-duelled Erin Hunter (UCSC) and Allie Foster (Johns Hopkins) down the stretch.
Middlebury's Marika Ross captured her second butterfly championship of the meet. Ross won the event two years ago. The Junior went out hard in the first 100. She nearly paid for that early effort however as Emory's Leigh Psaris put on a final charge, coming up just short. Sam Kephart (Whitworth) rounded out the top three.
In 20 of the last 25 championship meets, a Kenyon College relay team won the final event of the championship. Saturday night was no different as the winning 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of freshman Tina Ertel, sophomores Elizabeth Carlton and Jessica Wise along with junior Alyssa Toran clocked in at 3:26.25 over seven-tenths of a second ahead of second-place Emory and claimed the 40 relay points. Over the three-day event, the Ladies were victorious in eight of the eighteen swimming events that were contested. KC took advantage of their tremendous depth and accumulated points in every swimming event coasting to their 21st national title held at the University of Houston's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
