.: Georgia Women Bite 'Stangs 170.5-123.5

DALLAS , January 6th, 2007

The No. 8 SMU swimming and team fell to No. 6/7 Georgia today, 170.5-123.5. The Mustangs are now 4-1 in dual meets this season. Two swimmers posted career best times while three Mustangs notched season best times.

SMU began the meet off with a win in the 400 medley relay as the team of Petra Klosova, Tamara Sambrailo, Justine Clark and Leane Darling out-touched Georgia for a time of 3:46.81. Katie Roberts touched in at 10:10.04 in the 1000 free for third-place as Anja Carman followed in fourth-place with a time of 10:14.64. Federica Felloni posted a time of 10:39.89 for sixth-place in the 1000 free.

Jennifer Blackman touched the wall at 1:49.89 in the 200 free for a second-place finish. Celina Lemmen posted a time of 1:54.66 for fifth-place and Tiffany Sammis followed in sixth-place with a time of 1:56.97. Klosova swam a career-best time in the 100 back with a first-place time of 56.06. Carman raced for a time of 57.60 and a fourth-place finish.

In the 100 breast, Devon Callaghan set the pace for a third-place finish as she came in at 1:04.63 while Sambrailo finished fourth with a time of 1:04.70. Jennifer Basel clocked in at 1:07.48 for sixth-place. Clark posted a time of 2:05.48 in the 200 fly as she finished in second-place. Jaime Willamson swam a career-best time of 2:10.46 for fifth-place.

Darling posted a time of 23.47, taking first-place in the 50 free as Angela San Juan Cisneros placed fourth with a time of 24.07 and Michelle Vlasakova placed sixth with a time of 24.56.

In the three-meter diving event, Kristin Schild led the way as she posted a mark of 285.44 for first-place and Mara Morhouse notched a season-high score of 206.02 for fifth-place.

The Mustangs took the top two spots in the 100 free as Klosova gathered another first-place finish as she posted a time of 50.16 and Darling stopped the clock at 51.12. Vlasakova swam a time of 53.32 for sixth-place. In the 200 back, Carman posted a time of 2:02.02 as she notched a third-place finish and Callaghan swam a season-best time of 2:10.47 for fifth-place.

 Sambrailo clocked in at 2:22.70 for fourth-place in the 200 breast as Basel finished fifth with a time of 2:23.83 and Willamson placed sixth as she clocked in at 2:24.65. J. Blackman posted a time of 4:53.22 in the 500 free for third-place as Roberts touched in at 5:3.91 for fifth-place. Felloni came in at 5:22.19 for sixth-place.

San Juan Cisneros took first-place in the 100 fly with a time of 56.25 as Clark closely followed in second with a time of 56.26. Schild garnered another first-place finish as she won the one-meter diving event with a score of 267.30. Morhouse placed fifth with a season-high score of 219.97.

In the 200 IM, Callaghan finished fourth with a time of 2:07.13 and Basel clocked in at 2:08.29 for fifth-place. Sambrailo followed in sixth-place with a score of 2:13.51. Klosova, Darling, J. Blackman and Vlasakova combined for a time of 3:24.40 in the 400 free relay. This was the second best time posted this season by a 400 free Mustang relay.

The Mustangs will continue their home stint next weekend against No. 5 Texas A&M on Sat., Jan. 13th at 1:00 p.m.

For Georgia, Claire Maust and Kelly McNichols each won two events in their victory.

"This is a good win for our team," said Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle, whose team improved to 7-1. "We really earned one today. SMU is not an easy team to beat. I was very proud of the way our young ladies competed today. This is a quality win against a quality team."

Maust took first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 free with times of 1:49.59 and 4:51.62, respectively. McNichols claimed the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley in 1:02.55 and 2:04.99.

"We knew we had to swim tough in this meet because SMU is such a good team and because we were coming off the Christmas training," said Maust, a co-captain from Alpharetta. "Every event was hard fought, and we knew that coming in."

Haley Chura won the 200 backstroke in 2:01.60, registering an NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Kristen Frost took the 1,000 free in 10:03.59. Elizabeth Hill touched first in the 200 butterfly in 2:04.54. Melissa Klein stopped the clock in 2:18.68 to win the 200 breast.

Both of Georgia's teams will return to action Saturday, Jan. 13, as they entertain Texas.
