.: San Jose State Falls at Nevada

The San Jose State University women's swimming and diving team dropped a 152.5-139.5 decision to Western Athletic Conference rival Universityof Nevadaat Lombardi Pool on Saturday, January 27.

The dual meet marked the end of the 2006-07 regular season for both squads as the Spartans fell to 2-8. Nevadaconcluded the dual portion of its schedule a perfect 18-0.

As the lone Spartan competitor in the 1000 freestyle, junior Amanda Carr won in a time of 10:46.98. Lauren Mar was the other individual event winner for SJSU, taking the 100 freestyle in 53.25.

Melissa Logan swam a season-best 2:01.30 to finish fourth in the 200 freestyle. Other season-best times included Beste Erener in the 100 backstroke (1:02.76, 7th) and Jillene Golez (2:27.34) in the 200 individual medley.

In diving, Victoria Kreutz, a freshman out of Alberta, Canada, competing in her first collegiate meet, finished third on the one-meter board with a Spartan season-best mark of 274.10. Soraya Azarfar (251.70) and Jennifer Gonzalez (227.95) were seventh and eighth, respectively, with personal season-best scores. Kreutz also posted a Spartan season best on the three-meter board, with a score of 257.65. Gonzalez’s 232.80 was a season best for the junior.

The Spartan ‘A’ squad of Ashley Vrieze, Lesley Ouellette, Tarolyn Robertson and Mar placed second in the 200 medley relay in 1:49.34, while Mar, Vrieze, Robertson and Ksenija Poljak took first in the 200 freestyle relay to conclude the meet in 1:39.39.

Margaret Doolittle and Li Bei were both individual double-event winners for the host Wolf Pack. Doolittle won the 100 (1:05.10) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.61), while Bei swept the backstroke events (56.96 and 2:08.75).

San Jose State and Nevada will both have two and a half weeks to prepare now before meeting again at the 2007 WAC Championship, to be held Wednesday through Saturday, February 14-17, in San Antonio , Texas .
