.: Bentley Splits Results With Keene State

KEENE, N.H. , January 27th, 2007

Bentley split results with Keene State Saturday afternoon at the Spaulding Gym Pool 

Freshman Alex Bergantz captured both diving events, but it wasn’t enough as Bentley dropped a 173-127 decision to undefeated Keene State. 

The Owl women, who improved to 8-0, won the first seven events and set two school records en route to the win. Keene opened the meet with a school record time of 1:54.15 in the 200 yard medley relay, and later saw freshman Kristine Trutor better her own standard in the 200 back with a time of 2:14.29.  Trutor also captured the 100 free (1:01.36) and the 100 fly (1:02.14).

Keene’s other triple winner was senior Katy Pryor, who notched victories in the 200 free (2:00.52), the 200 fly (2:20.96) and the 500 free (5:25.73). Both Trutor and Pryor were part of the record-setting relay.

Bergantz captured the one-meter dive with a score of 213.35 and completed her diving sweep with a 205.25 on the three-meter board. 

Bentley’s only winners in the swimming events were junior Arden Brust in the 200 individual medley (2:20.11) and sophomore Kaitlin Chepeleff in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.29). 
        

THe men were led by juniors Arthur Engelhard and Kyle Reese, the Bentley men’s swim team improved to 7-2 and extended its winning streak to three with a 165-121 win over Keene.

Engelhard captured the 100 yard backstroke in 55.92 seconds and also helped the Falcons to victories in both relays, the opening 200 medley and the closing 400 free.  Reese swept the diving events, with scores of 230.55 on the one-meter and 193.57 on the three-meter.

In the 200 medley relay, Engelhard was followed into the pool by freshmen Sam Laden and Tony Tryonis, and junior Bryan Stinchfield, with the foursome posting a time of 1:42.24, edging the Owls by 0.19 seconds. Engelhard anchored the 200 free to a time of 3:23.10, with the group also including Laden, sophomore Nick Markert and senior Chris Booth.

Bentley’s other individual winners were Stinchfield in the 200 free (1:49.75) and freshman Willie Connolly in the 200 back (2:04.82).
