.: UConn Sweeps Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. , January 20th, 2007

The University of Connecticut swimming and diving teams completed a sweep of the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. The men won by a score of 182-103, while the women defeated the Rams by a score of 171-120. 

The Huskies controlled much of the 30 event meet, taking a total of 22 first place finishes and 18 second place slots. 

The win was highlighted by six Huskies winning multiple events. 

Both the men's and women's one and three meter dive events were swept by Stephen Ferreira and Liza Marianni. 

Heather Grieb took the top spot in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, Kristalynn Kempton topped the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Nick Acquavito took first in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, while Adrian Astiz placed first in the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly. 

Also picking up top finishes were Frisk Driscoll, Cassie Peterson, Lindsay Rogers, Emily Karel, Michael Brocki, Katie DeVinney, Abed Kaaki and Chris Ferreira.

Connecticut returns for the final home meet of the season on Sunday January 21. The senior class of Grieb, Acquavito, Diane Duncheskie, Tim Wong, Juliet Paradine and Tristan Jones will be honored in a pre-meet ceremony. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
