.: Lock Haven Wins One At California (Pa.)
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. , January 20th, 2007
The Lock Haven University (3-5, 2-2 PSAC) swimming team traveled to California (Pa.) today to compete against the Vulcans and Slippery Rock University.
The Lady Eagles matched up well against the Rock, picking up a victory by a 65-57 score but fell to California (Pa.) by a score of 67-53.
Gerda Smirnova captured a first place in the 100 freestyle (54:14) and a second place in the 50 free (25:01). Diane Sujansky finished with a win in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.34, a second place in the 200 breast (2:30.57), and she finished fourth in the 50 freestyle.
Joining Sujansky and Smirnova in providing strong performances in today's competition were Katie Grieneisen, her sister Kelly Grieneisen, sophomore Britnie Spaunhorst freshman Ashley Lightcap and classmate Amanda Palmer.
The relay team of Smirnova, Kelly Grieneisen, Mary Ewanich, and Kristen Caburis won first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay event.
Smirnova, Sujansky, Grieneisen, Grieneisen, Spaunhorst, Lightcap, Palmer, Ewanich, Caburis, and the rest of the Lady Eagle swim team will be back in action Fri. January 26 when they will host IUP at 2:30 p.m.
