Senior Terra Wilson went out with a big splash on Senior Day, as she picked up three individual wins settting new records along the way in her last home meet of her stellar career.
The Lady Bulldogs dominated the competition as they defeated Campbell 52-43 and downed N.C. A&T 60-35 in the annual GWU Half-Double Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb touched the wall first in 10 of the 11 events for the meet as six different Lady Bulldog swimmers scored victories on the day.
Wilson led the charge with three individual wins setting new school records along the way. Wilson touched in first in the 100-yard IM with a new record time of 59.06, passing Taylor Simpson’s time of 1:02.01 on
the all-time GWU list. Wilson also set a new GWU record in the 400-yard backstroke event surpassing her old record of 4:29.78 by a whole two seconds with her first-place time of 4:27.12. The senior’s third victory came in the 800-yard IM where she once again passed Simpson on the record list, turning in a time of 9:24.33.
Senior Kathryn Williams also shined on Senior Day, as she touched in first-place in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.09.
Not to be outdone, juniors Grace Whiteside, Isabel Olivas and Whitney Hooley all scored victories of their own for the Bulldogs. Whiteside touched the wall first in the 400-yard fly with a time of 4:41.01, a
new personal best and third overall in school history. Olivas took first-place in the 400-yard breaststroke with a time of 5:13.57, while Hooley finished first in the 50-yard backstroke with her time of 28.66.
Freshmen Corey Hughey and Kelly Learned both picked up wins for GWU on Saturday, as Hughey touched in first in the 50-yard fly with her time of 27.07. Learned scored her first victory of her young collegiate
career on Saturday, touching the wall ahead of everyone else in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.51. Both times were good enough for third-place overall in GWU school histroy in their respective events.
The two wins for the Lady Bulldogs to 10-4 in dual meet action this season, marking the sixth straight season in which they have reached double digit wins on the year.
