Host Dickinson College topped visiting Washington College women, 108-97, in a Centennial Conference meet this afternoon in Carlisle, PA. The Red Devils clinched the victory with a first-place finish in the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay. For the men, Dickinson men's swim team won the final event to defeat visiting Washington College, 103-96.Sophomore Dan Wentzel became Washington's fifth all-time fastest swimmer in the 1000 freestyle during the meet.
For the women, Dickinson's relay team of Stacey Foltz, Elizabeth Schroll, Lauren Letko, and Serena Gibney won the final event in 3:34.61, taking first-place by less than two seconds. The Red Devils were clinging to a 95-93 lead in the meet prior to the final event.
Washington junior Megan Morse and senior Ally Simons each won two individual events for the Shorewomen in the meet. Morse won the 500 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 5:26.60 and the 200 freestyle in 2:00.18. Simons won the 200 individual medley in 2:18.12 and the 200 butterfly in 2:20.91.
Washington's 400 medley relay team of senior Liz Shoemaker, freshman Liz Thomas, Simons,
and freshman Kathy Gerhart won that event in 4:15.38.
Senior Erin Jones finished second in the 1000 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 11:21.10 and second in the 500 freestyle in 5:36.20. Gerhart was second in the 100 freestyle in 55.80, Shoemaker was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:15.56, freshman Cailin Eisele was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:23.44, and sophomore Andrea Cole took second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.22.
Washington men led, 94-90, going into the 400 freestyle relay. Dickinson's team of Ben Cooper, Ron Franciscovich, Chris Hoolehan, and Everett Kimball won the race in 3:18.89, finishing in first-place by less than three seconds. Dickinson also took third in the event to give the Red Devils the 103-96 win.
Wentzel won the 1000 freestyle for Washington in a WC season-best time of 10:35.69 to become Washington's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in the event. Junior Alex Thomas finished first in the 200
individual medley (2:05.13) and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.31). Senior Colin Soper was first in the 500 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 5:02.52, becoming Washington's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, and finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.50. Freshman Dylan Pollock added a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.38.
Junior Brandon Becker, Thomas, Pollock, and freshman Justin Morgan won the 400 medley relay in 3:47.52. Becker was also second in the 200 backstroke in 2:11.57, while freshman Chris Soper was second in both the 50 freestyle (22.93) and the 100 freestyle (50.46).
