The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Loyola College in a non-league meet Saturday afternoon at Rawstrom Pool.
The Delaware women (12-2) won 10 of the 16 events to post a 180-106 victory over Loyola, downing the Greyhounds for the second time this season. On the men’s side, the Blue Hens (6-6) avenged a 191-71 loss to Loyola back in December with a 194.5-103.5 victory as Delaware also captured 10 of the 16 events.
The Blue Hen women won their 12th dual meet of the season, giving the team its highest win total since a perfect 12-0 mark during the 1981-82 season. The UD men won their sixth meet of the season, matching the team’s highest win total since going 6-1 in 1990-91. Both Delaware teams will conclude the regular season dual meet season by hosting Widener. Jan. 24.
Maryann Walker captured three events for the UD women, taking first place in the 100 backstroke (59.89) and 100 freestyle (54.41) and teaming with Emily Smathers, Kellie Pastore, and Sarah Begley to win the
200 medley relay (1:51.61). Pastore also won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.02) while Ellen Heinz won the 500 freestyle l(5:13.50), Michelle Stephens won the 200 breaststroke (2:26.51), Rachel Greene captured the 50 freestyle (25.68), Stephanie House won the 200 butterfly (2:09.72), Kendall Warren won the 200 freestyle (1:59.48), and Meredith Law captured the 1,000 freestyle (10:41.26).
On the men’s side, John Ohlhaver, Adam Blomberg, and Andrew Zinn all won multiple events. Zinn won the 50 freestyle (21.52) and 100 freestyle (47.18) and teamed with Ohlhaver, Blomberg, and Scott Tsuchitani to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.90) and with Mark Erdosy, Blomberg, and Zinn to win the 200 medley relay (1:37.57). Ohlhaver also won the 100 backstroke (53.15) and Blomberg captured the 100 butterfly (53.68). Other Delaware winners were Brendan Spencer in the 200 individual medley (2:01.14), Tom Gallagher in the one-meter dive (234.68), Matt Abbruzzese in the three-meter dive (272.93), and Troy Sattgast in the 200 butterfly (1:59.52).
