Sophomore Lisa Marchi earned three individual wins and contributed to a winning relay to lead the Colgate women’s swimming and diving team to a 161-137 win at Lafayette on Friday, Jan. 19. On the same day, seniors Greg Dunlavey and Dave Hill, along with sophomore George Bennitt, were all double winners as the Colgate men’s swimming and diving team also defeated Lafayette, 168-125.

Marchi started the afternoon by winning the 200 free in a time of 1:54.38. She added wins in the 100 (53.56) and 500 free (5:12.22). Classmate Ashley Bottger placed second in the 100 free, just 0.15 seconds behind Marchi. Senior Keriann Fitzsimons was third in the 500 with a time of 5:14.63.

Marchi also swam the lead-off leg of the 200 free relay that turned in the eighth-fastest time in school history, 1:38.03, to capture first place. Bottger, who anchored the relay, touched the wall just 0.05 seconds before Lafayette’s Liz Geary to earn the win.

The Raider divers swept the top three spots in both events. Senior Gretchen Swarr won both boards, posting a score of 218.93 on the one-meter  and scoring 216.68 on the three-meter. Sophomore Lexie King was second in both events, and senior Sara Dyer finished third on both boards.

Freshman Caitlin Curran won the 200 breast and finished second in the 100 breast, posting times of 2:29.34 and 1:09.58. Classmate Alaina Sullivan was right behind her in the 100 to take third, finishing in 1:09.84, and she was second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:31.33.

Junior Colby Seamans posted a winning time of 4:40.57 in the 400 IM. Curran was the runner-up, finishing in 4:48.21. Seamans swam the 200 back in 2:11.74 to take second place. Kate Murphy earned second-place points in the 100 fly with a time of 59.45.

Freshman Karen Baker earned a second-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 10:48.31. Classmate Kate Murphy came in second in the 200 fly, clocking in at 2:13.79. Senior co-captain Leslie Petsoff was third in the 200 fly in a time of 2:17.09.

The Raiders finished second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:07.27. Head coach Stephen Jungbluth tinkered with his relay lineup, putting Seamans, Curran, and sophomores Emily Murphy and Bottger together for the first time this season.

For the men, Bennitt won the 200 free in a season-best time of 1:48.19, and added a win in the 500 free, posting his second-best time of the year, 5:00.30. Freshman Cameron Voell came in third in the 200, touching the wall in 1:50.34. Bennitt also earned a second-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 49.96.

Hill won the 200 breast in 2:22.26, and he was followed by Scott Dunlavey who too second in 2:24.14. Hill also claimed the top spot in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:32.52. Freshman Robert Rutkowski was second in the IM, finishing in 4:35.64.

The Raiders took the top two spots in the 100 and 200 back. Greg Dunlavey won both events with times of 58.01 and 2:00.95, and he was followed by sophomore Brian Kennedy, who finished in 59.66 and 2:09.72.

Junior Zach Whitman won the 200 fly with one of his best times of the season, 1:59.24, edging out Lafayette’s Steve Rubino by 0.14 seconds. Rutkowski was third with a time of 2:03.09. Whitman finished second in the 100 fly, 0.19 seconds behind the winner in 53.63, and Rutkowski was third in 54.71. Whitman came in third in the 100 free, just 0.09 seconds behind Bennitt, with a time of 50.05.

Sophomore Stephen Haskin won the three-meter diving event with a score of 235.95, and finished third on the one-meter board, earning 223.28 points.

Colgate finished one-two in the first event of the meet, the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Greg Dunlavey, sophomore Scott Dunlavey, junior Zach Whitman and senior Zach Grobengieser earned top honors with a time of 3:41.09.

Junior Simon Rosen and Scott Dunlavey were the top two finishers in the 100 breast. Rosen’s time was 1:02.98, while Dunlavey finished in 1:04.85.

Sophomore Rick McMahon, Colgate’s lone entrant in the 1000 free event, came through for his team by claiming second place with a time of 10:28.72. McMahon took second place in the 500 free, finishing in 5:06.95.
