.: Denison Men Hold Onto, Emory Women Move Up to Top Spots in Division III

Somers, WI , January 2nd, 2007

Impressive finishes at the Miami (OH) Invitational propelled the Denison men’s and Emory women’s swimming and diving teams to the top of the CollegeSwimming.com Dual Meet Rankings. The Emory women, defending national champions, displaced previously top-ranked Kenyon while Denison strengthened their hold on the top spot. The Ranking uses and objective scoring system to measure a dual-meet strength and is not indicative of a team’s finish at the NCAA Championships.

The Emory women (5-4) jumped ahead of Kenyon to take the top spot. The ranking is of little consequence for a team that suffered an even bigger loss when Freshman Madeline Brown passed away December 20th. The Kenyon (4-2) put the wraps on 2006 with a trio of dual meet victories and victory at the Nike Cup. UW-Stevens Point (2-1) slipped a spot to third despite a crushing 217-26 victory over UW-Oshkosh. Denison, following a third-place finish at the Miami Invitational, moved up to fourth while Wittenberg (5-1) solidified its top five ranking. Hope, Carnegie Mellon, Wheaton (MA), UC Santa Cruz and Johns Hopkins round out the top ten.

The Denison men (6-1) closed out their fall campaign with dominating performance at the Miami (OH) Invitational. The Big Red currently hold the nation’s fastest times in five individual events and four of the five relays. Emory (3-3) moved up two spots to second following their fourth place finish at the Miami Invitational. The Eagles only losses have come at the hands of Division I programs, Defending national champion Kenyon College (2-4), slipped a spot to third. The Lords said goodbye to 2006 with a second-place finish at the Nike Cup. Wabash (6-0),moved up a spot to fourth which they share with Rowan (3-2). UW-Stevens Point, UC-Santa Cruz, and DePauw were tied for sixth with Carnegie Mellon and Olivet completing the top ten.

The CollegeSwimming.com rankings are based on each team's best dual meet lineup as judged and submitted by participating teams. Rankings are announced four times throughout the season and entries are due on November 14 (Pre-Invite), December 20 (Post-Invite), February 6 (Pre-Conference) , and March 6 (post-conference).
