In a repeat of outcomes from their duel across town two months ago, the Drury and Missouri State swimming and diving squads split their meet Thursday night at the Breech Pool.
The Drury women defeated MSU 142-101, while the Bears turned the tables in the men's meet with a 140-102 triumph.
The MSU men started the meet off with a victory in the 200 medley relay as Eduardo Pajares, Greg Temple, Victor Serra and Ignacio Gayo teamed up for a time of 1:34.47.Serra was a double individual event winner for the Bears, claiming gold in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 50.49 and clocking a time of 1:52.67 to win the 200 IM. Pajares and Gayo were also individual winners with Pajares winning the 100 backstroke in a season-best time of 51.76 and Gayo with a win in the 50 freestyle in a season-best time of 21.11.
MSU freshman Andrew Denefe won the 100 freestyle with a personal-best time of 45.95 and senior diver Cole Kalkbrenner scored 276.68 points on the three-meter diving board to claim the win.
Individual stars for Drury on the women's side included senior Cara Fadel, who won the 200 IM in 2:07.51 and the 500 Free in 5:00.41, and freshman and semester newcomer Jing Hua, who captured the 200 Free in 1:53.32 (just ahead of Fadel's 1:54.18) and the 100 Back in 57.19 in addition to swimming on the winning 200 Medley Relay squad.
Drury also got victories from Sharon Peppard in the 1000 Free, Mariana de Oliveira in the 50 Free, Janelle Slattery in the 100 Fly, Eunate Garro in the 100 Free, Colleen Boerner in the 3-meter diving and Xiafyuan You in the 100 Breast.
For the Panther men, freshman Yiwen Huang established a pool record with his time of 1:39.17 in the 200 Freestyle, breaking the old mark of 1:40.00 set in 2000 by DU's Val Serafimov. Sophomore Mitch Snyder captured the 1000 Free (9:40.95) and the 500 Free (4:42.01).
Other DU men's winners included Artem Sloudnov in the 100 Breast and Andrew Coop in the 1-meter diving.
In a dual with Missouri State at Hammons Center on Nov. 18, the DU women won 136-107, while the MSU men beat the Panthers by the same score.
The Drury women return to action with a noon Saturday meet against Division I Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Chelsea Ray was the lone individual winner for the Bears. The freshman won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 214.58.The Panther men are idle until both DU squads journey to Kirksville to take on fellow D-II power Truman State in a 1 p.m. dual. Both Missouri State swimming and diving teams will be back in action Friday, Jan. 19, in Evansville, Ind., to take on the Purple Aces at 5 p.m.
