Led by senior Liz Lebherz and freshman Jordan Crosby, the Towson Tigers had a record-setting day in defeating George Mason University in a Colonial Athletic Association meet on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers won 10 of 16 events en route to a 170.5-126.5 victory over the Patriots, upping their record to 7-3 on the season. Meanwhile Senior Chris Will and sophomore Gordon Amato combined to win five individual events as the Tigers (5-5) earned their third straight victory, a 156.5-141.5 victory over the Mason men.
Lebherz and Crosby each broke a school record in the victory while earning five of the Tigers’ 10 victories in the meet. Lebherz earned her third individual school record by recording a time of 10:17.65 in the 1000-free, eclipsing the previous mark of 10:23.33 set by Allison Paul in 2002. She also holds the school records in the 200-free and 500-free.
In addition to winning the 1000-free, Lebherz finished first in the 200-free with a time of 1:53.49 and the 500-free in 5:06.41.
Meanwhile, Crosby set the school record in the 200-butterfly by finishing first with a time of 2:06.05, surpassing the mark of 2:06.62 set by Ashley Bomberger two years ago. She also finished first in the 100-fly with a mark of :58.51 as the Tigers took the top three spots in the event. Sophomore Lauren Entler took second with a mark of :59.01 while junior Caroline Cox followed in 1:00.10.
Senior Aly Hunt, who was named as the CAA Swimmer of the Week last week, earned victories in the 100-back with a time of :59.47 along with victories in the 50-free (:24.01) and the 100-free (:52.45). Freshman Emilie Hoeper took first place in the 200-back with a time of 2:09.97 while freshman Ivy Wimberley earned a victory in the 200-breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:25.07.
The Tigers will return home next Saturday afternoon when they host Drexel University at Burdick Pool at 1:00 p.m. Prior to their final home meet of the season, the Tigers will honor Lebherz, Hunt and Melissa Leach on the occasion of their final home meet.
In addition, Will and Amato swam legs of the Tigers’ victorious 200-medley relay, which finished in a time of 1:39.09.
Amato finished first in the 100-back with a time of :54:16 and the 200-back (1:54.93) while Will earned victories in the 50-free (:21.54) and the 100-free (:47.04). Will also finished in a tie for first place in the 100-fly with a mark of :51.31.
Junior Mike Toolan-Miller took first in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:01.94 while sophomore Connor Scanlon earned a victory in the 200-free, touching the wall in 1:45.02.
The Tigers return to action on January 27 when they make the short trip down Charles Street to face Loyola College. Prior to the Tiger women’s meet against Drexel next Saturday, the Tigers will honor Will as the team’s lone senior.
