.: Texas Men, Stanford Women Sweep First Place Votes

Phoenix, AZ , February 9th, 2007

The excitement is beginning to build as NCAA swimming conference championship season has started in many parts of the country.  For that reason, many teams have finished their dual meet seasons in time for the latest CSCAA Top 25 rankings.

Since the last vote, women’s swimming was entertained by one of the fastest dual meets in history.  The Stanford Cardinal was unanimously given top billing after its 153-147 victory over the second-ranked California Golden Bears in this showdown.

The men’s poll saw little change.  Each of the twenty-five top teams in the previous poll remained in the rankings, with no team moving more than two positions.  The top team remains the Texas Longhorns after earning all nine first place votes.

There are eight teams in the current rankings joining Stanford (10-0) and Texas (8-0) amongst the ranks of the unbeaten.  On the women’s side; Texas A&M (#5, 9-0), Indiana (#8, 5-0), Penn State (#16, 10-0) and North Carolina (#17, 8-0) have gone through the season thus far without suffering a loss.

The four unbeaten men’s teams include Stanford (#2, 3-0), Northwestern (#6, 7-0), Minnesota (#10, 5-0), and West Virginia (#17, 13-0).
