The University of Nevada swimming and diving team won nine of 10 events on Saturday morning to defeat the University of Idaho 112-74 in Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals won the first event on Saturday just as they did in Friday’s 138.5-123.5 dual victory over the Wolf Pack but that was the only event they won today as the Pack scored victories in the next nine events to claim victory. The Pack improved to 3-3 on the season in dual action while UI dropped to 1-7.
After winning three events on Friday junior Courtney Eads was a double winner Saturday. After Idaho dominated both distance events yesterday Nevada head coach Mike Richmond entered Eads in the only distance event Saturday and she won the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 17:12.84. She also swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle giving her five individual victories in the two days.
Senior Nonie Wainwright and sophomore Margaret Doolittle were double winners today. Wainwright won the 100-yard freestyle for the second day in a row and added a first in today’s 50-yard freestyle. Doolittle won the 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard butterfly. Friday she won the 100-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Summer Halwas-Morgan and freshman Jeanette Tour won individual events in the meet. Halwas-Morgan won the 400-yard IM and Tour swam to a first place finish in the 50-yard backstroke.
Senior Michaela Schmidt and junior Kim Kabesh each earned second place finishes. Schmidt was second in the 50-yard freestyle and won the same event on Friday. Kabesh took first in the 50-yard backstroke today and was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly yesterday.
Danielle Maddock and Kayla Mariani swam to third place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly respectively.
The only event Nevada did not win as the 400-yard medley relay where the squad of Tour, Halwas-Morgan, Doolittle, and Schmidt place second. Schmidt, Bobbie Lee Reese, Kabesh, and Eads teamed up to win the final event of the day, taking first in the 800-yard freestyle relay in a time of 7:41.37.
Nevada does not compete again until early January during its winter training trip to Hawai`i.
