The Westminster College women's swimming team won its first dual meet of the season by defeating Chatham, 161-101, at home in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Friday night.
Senior Becky Giles (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) and junior Megan Mier (Copley, Ohio/Revere) each won four events (three individual) for the Titans.
Giles won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:27.31) and the 100 (1:01.61) and 200 (2:15.33) butterfly races, while Mier finished first in the 200 IM (2:19.57) and the 100 (1:01.80) and 200 (2:13.36) backstroke races. Both swimmers also contributed on the first-place 400 freestyle relay team (3:49.94).
Westminster also posted first-place times in three other events, including sophomore Emily Dressler (Hummelstown, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian) winning the 50 free (25.88), freshman Courtney Herdt (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) capturing the 100 breaststroke (1:10.84) and junior Caitlin McManus (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) taking the 200 breaststroke (2:35.12).
Westminster is now 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in the PAC, while the Cougars drop to 6-3 and 0-3 in league dual meets.
The Titan men and women are at Bethany tomorrow at noon.
