The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams cruised past Valparaiso in Horizon League action Friday night at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatoruium. The men won all 13 events en route to a final score of 153.5-66.5, while the women claimed 11 event wins and a 135-92 victory.
Three men were multi-event winners for Green Bay. Travis Mathers enjoyed a strong night, winning the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.31 and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.37. Meanwhile, Alex Hill touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.04) and the 1000 free (9:54.10). Brandon Kuntz starred in the two diving competitions, winning on both the 1-meter (262.65) and 3-meter (273.50).
Five Phoenix males won single individual events. Ryan Loy took the 50 free (21.96), Kyle Eberle placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.55), Dan Judge won the 200 butterfly (1:59.39), Tim Scanlan grabbed a win in the 100 free (48.79), and Dustin Dietrich's time in the 500 free (4:53.76) was also good for first place.
Dana Doute was the star on the women's side, winning all three of her individual events. She was victorious in two freestyle events, the 100 free (53.70) and 200 free (1:56.52), and capped off the night with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.43).
Green Bay also had a pair of two-event winners. Shannon Demrow won both the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.70) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.46), while diver Kari Helland posted wins in the 1-meter diving event (240.20) and on the 3-meter (245.25).
Other individual winners were: Danielle DeGrand in the 50 free (24.59), Ashley Warzon in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.84) and Deanna DeGrand in the 1000 freestyle (10:35.91).
Green Bay returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against South Dakota State. Admission to the meet is free.
