The Minnesota State men’s swimming and diving team suffered a 127-114 loss to St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon in the highland pool on the campus of Minnesota State University.
The Mavericks opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.17. The squad consisted of senior Andrew Makepeace, and juniors Scott Kent, Ben Dowswell and Sean Jost. MSU also finished third in the race with a time of 1:40.79. The third-place relay squad was comprised of junior Zac Ruzycki, sophomore Brian Parks, junior Mac Egan and junior Chris Knight.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, MSU turned in a time of 1:28.68, good for second-place. That relay squad consisted of freshman Nick Howard, and junior Jacob Bjork along with Knight and Jost.
In the one-meter dive, junior Brian Welch reached the NCAA provisional mark with a score of 275.80, as he took home first-place. Welch finished third in the three-meter dive with a score of 192.90.
Individually, Dowswell won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :21.72, while junior Marty Wahle turned in a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, turning in a pool record time of 1:54.72.
Wahle and Egan finished first and second in the 100-yard butterfly, with Wahle leading the way with a time of :52.39. Egan finished second with a time of :54.00.
Kent continued his dominance in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing the race in :59.27, which was good for first.
Wahle also claimed the 100-yard backstroke turning in a time of :52.00, a mark which was a new school record as well as a “B”-cut for the NCAA championship meet.
Senior Kyle Enloe and junior Joe Spahn finished second and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle turning in times of 10:17.39 and 10:27.47 respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Bjork finished second with a time of 1:45.97, while Dowswell was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :47.58. Bjork also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.03.
Minnesota State (4-1, 1-1 NCC) returns to action Jan. 18, when they travel to the Pointer Open hosted by UW-Stevens Point.
