.: Minnesota State Men Defeat Luther College 129-109

The Minnesota State swimming and diving squad turned in a complete team effort en route to a 129-109 victory over Luther College Friday night in the Highland Pool on the campus of Minnesota State University.

The Mavericks swam well in the relays, claiming the 200-yard medley relay with a pool record time of 1:36.77. The relay squad consisted of senior Andrew Makepeace, junior Scott Kent, sophomore Ben Dowswell, and junior Sean Jost. Minnesota State also turned in a third-place finish in the race as junior Zac Ruzycki, sophomore Brian Parks, junior Mac Egan and junior Jacob Bjork completed the course in a time of 1:49.39.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, MSU finished second with a time of 1:27.58. The time, which would have been good for a pool record, was bested by Luther College, whose relay squad turned in a time of 1:27.21. The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisted of Wahle, Jost, junior Chris Knight and senior Kyle Enloe.

Enloe won the 1,000-yard freestyle turning in a time of 10:11.38. The winning trend continued in the 200-yard freestyle as Bjork claimed a first-place finish with a time of 1:46.67. Ruzycki was third in the 200-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 1:50.38.

Dowswell won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :21.73, while Knight turned in a third-place finish with a time of :22.66.

Wahle and Egan finished one-two in the 200-yard individually medley. Wahle turned in a time of 1:56.16, establishing a new pool record, while Egan was second with a time of 2:02.40.

Dowswell continued his winniing ways in the 100-yard butterfly as he established a new pool record – and reached the Division II “B”-cut with a time of :51.18. His time was a :01.25 improvement on the previous pool record. Egan finished third in the race with a time of :54.12.

Wahle also claimed a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, turning in a time of :47.62.

Makepeace and Ruzycki finished second and third in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with times of :54.54 and :56.28 respectively.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Enloe and Bjork turned in strong performances, as Enloe finished first with a time of 4:55.42 and Bjork finished second with a time of 4:57.86.

Junior Scott Kent broke the pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a time of :59.02, a mark which was good for a “B”-cut for the NCAA championships.

In the dives, junior Brian Welch was second in the one-meter with a score of 261.95 and was third in the 3-meter dive with a time of 208.95.

Minnesota State (4-0, 1-0, NCC) hosts St. Cloud State tomorrow beginning at 11:30 am with the diving portion of the meet.
