.: MAAC Announces Weekly Swimming Awards

Edison, NJ , December 4th, 2007

Loyola’s Matt Fralinger and Caitlin Cassidy were named the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week, respectively. Fairfield’s Taylor Stecko and Rider’s Amanda Burke were selected as the Divers of the Week.

Fralinger won the 100 Breaststroke (59.03) and 200 Breaststroke (2:10.35), and was part of Loyola’s winning 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay teams as the Greyhounds won the H2Ounds Invitational last weekend. The win included Loyola’s first victory over Marist in program history. Fralinger’s times in the 100 and 200 Breast were ECAC qualifying times, while the both relays registered the second-fastest times in school history.

Cassidy won the 50 Freestyle (24.57) and set ECAC qualifying times in the 50 Free, 100 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle, and 200 Medley for Loyola at the H2Ounds Invitational. She also helped the 200 Medley Relay team and 400 Free Relay team win their events with ECAC qualifying times. On top of that, the 200 Free Relay team set a school record in their second-place finish.

Stecko, a sophomore, continued his impressive work on the boards this season as he captured both the one-meter and three-meter events at the 2007 Harold Anderson Invitational. Stecko successfully defended his three-meter title at the invite by out-performing six other competitors (from Maine and Rhode Island) and registering a score more than 23 points higher than the runner-up. The one-meter was a closer competition, but Stecko outranked URI’s Logan Pearsall by five points. Stecko’s marks were of 222.85 in the three-meter and 227.85 in the one-meter. Stecko has competed in all six meets for the Stags, sweeping both boards on four occasions. He has won the 3-meter five times and the 1-meter four times.

At the Big Al’ Invitational, hosted by Princeton University, Burke won the one-meter (276.80) after placing second in the three-meter (267.55), finishing ahead of a 2007 NCAA qualifier. The invitational, hosted by Princeton, the defending Ivy League champion, included Rider, Brown, Bucknell, Columbia, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Washington State and the host Tigers.
