Boca Raton, FL , December 19th, 2007

WOMEN'S RECAP:

In the midst of its annual holiday training trip, Northwestern swept a double-dual meet against Denver and host Florida Atlantic Wednesday afternoon.

NU topped FAU, 120.5-116.5, while besting Denver, 127-102. The Wildcats now are 5-2 during the dual-meet season.

The Northwestern and Florida Atlantic dual came down to the final relay, with the Wildcats' 'B' team of Erin Reilly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), Stacy Congdon (Windermere, Fla./Lake Highland), Katie Eschenburg (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Hayley Fry (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) tying FAU for the win in the event after NU's 'A' really was disqualified during the race. The 'B' team stepped up with a time of 3:37.46 to seal the meet victory for the 'Cats.

Northwestern kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, earning a time of 1:46.03 from  the team of Eschenburg, Fry, Katie Braun (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's).

Sophomore Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) captured the 1,000 free with a 10:05.13, followed by teammates Ellen Grigg (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) in third and Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb./Marian) in fifth.

Senior Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) took first in the 200 free with a 1:52.47, then  Wong's 24.08 earned the top spot in the 50 free, just in front of teammate Teisha Lightbourne (Nassau, Bahamas/Peddie School (N.J.)) in third.

Braun won her first individual event with a 2:06.58 in the 200 IM, while Shishkoff was third in the event with a 2:09.47. Braun made it back-to-back victories with an NCAA 'B' provisional qualification cut of 2:02.36 to win the 200 fly. Her time is even more impressive considering the grueling training regimen the team is working through on its trip. Sophomore Rachel Rys (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) was third in the 200 fly for NU.

Hupman picked up her second victory of the meet with a 52.02 in the 100 free, then sophomore Genny Szymanski (Haines, Alaska/Haines) was Northwestern's top finisher in the 200 back with a second-place time of 2:06.08. Grigg earned NU's second-straight second-place result with a 5:02.37 in the 500 free.

Rounding out the individual events, junior Jill Forster (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was Northwestern's top placer in the 200 breast with a season-best 2:27.34 to take fifth.

Northwestern's divers are training separately this year, so all diving points in the meet went to Florida Atlantic and Denver.

MEN'S RECAP:

No. 17 Northwestern split its holiday training trip double-dual meet Wednesday, besting host Florida Atlantic, 149-73, while falling to Denver, 134-96.

The Wildcats' swimmers competed without their diving counterparts, who are training elsewhere this year, so all diving points went to the Owls and Pioneers.

Northwestern began the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay by the team of Adam Beckman (Kearney, Neb./Kearney), John Franklin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./North Broward Prep), Kyle Bubolz (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) and Jon Ehret (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep). NU's winning time was 1:33.63.

Freshman Peter Park (Princeton, N.J./Peddie School) won the 1,000 free for the 'Cats, besting his nearest competition by more than six seconds with a time of 9:33.22.

Junior Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) was first in the 200 free with a 1:40.00, while freshman Sean Mathews (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) won third with a 1:43.77.

Ehret took second as NU's top finisher in the 50 free, barely being out-touched by .04 of second with a time of 21.49. Beckman then won the 200 IM with a 1:55.37 for the Wildcats.

Nilsson won his second individual event with a 1:51.92 in the 200 fly, while Bubolz's 46.06 in the 100 free was good for first place as well. Beckman's second win of the meet came with a 1:52.12 in the 200 back.

Park and Mathews were second and third, respectively, with times of 4:44.96 and 4:46.51 in the 500 free for the 'Cats. Freshman Alex Tyler (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Groves) took third as NU's best finisher in the 200 breast with a 2:10.32.

In the final event of the day, NU's team of Bubolz, Nilsson, Chris Doman (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and Mathews finished second in the 400 free relay with a 3:14.34.
