The University of Washington women’s swimming team finished in second place at the Husky Invitational on Saturday night, concluding the three-day meet with 1,225 points. The Husky men finished in fourth place with 798 points. No. 4 Michigan, with 1,621.5 points, took home first on the men’s side, while No. 21 USC, with 1,369 points, claimed first on the women’s side.
 
Kim Jasmer and Erin Campbell led the efforts for the Washington women on Saturday night, with Jasmer taking second in the 1650 freestyle (16:34.98) and Campbell placing third in the 200 back (2:01.38).
 
“We had a great evening,” said Huskies head coach Whitney Hite about his women’s team. “Kim Jasmer swam well, Erin Campbell had a great meet, (and) Jen Gong had a great meet. We’re starting to put it together and starting to figure it out; we have a pretty good team. We are continuing to learn and continuing to get better.”
 
Gong took eighth in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.06, while Jessica Buchanan finished in fourth in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:15.40.
 
Lindsey Sharp, Maggie Bever and Rachel Seely went 6-7-8 in the 100 freestyle, with Sharp swimming a 51.14, Bever a 51.20 and Seely a 52.21.
 
The 400 freestyle relay team of Campbell, Bever, Sharp and Jasmer took second with a time of 3:22.27.
 
For the Husky men, Scott Spansail took second in the 1650 free with a time of 15:33.15, while Ivan Perhat finished in fifth place in the 100 free (44.31). Also for the UW men, Yonatan Cohen took sixth in the 200 breast in a time of 2:02.48.
 
“We had a great meet on the men’s side,” said Hite. “The men’s field was very tough with four ranked teams.
 
“Ivan is really coming into his own. Scott Spansail had a great night and Jon Banker had a great meet for us. We are starting to get some pretty good swims overall. It’s a lot like the women, we’re getting better everytime we swim.”
 
Following Michigan in the team standings on the men’s side was No. 11 California (1,142.5), No. 16 USC (893), Washington, UC Santa Barbara (643), No. 24 Hawaii (484), Wyoming (411), Seattle (222), Whitworth (190) and Puget Sound (159).
 
On the women’s side, after USC and Washington was Notre Dame (897), UC Santa Barbara (823.5), Oregon State (683), Wyoming (542), Hawaii (397.5), UC Davis (342), Boise State (225), Whitworth (225), Seattle (158) and Puget Sound (89).
