CollegeSwimming.com has anounced the hiring of several new staff members for the upcoming year. The additions will increase the number of news staff from two to five for the 2007-08 season. The additions will also enable the site to bring a more-focused approach to their efforts by placing each coordinator as the primary contact for specific regions.
Dana Kirk, Liz Alley, Drew Ossakow and Anthony Randall with join fourth-year veteran Emily Melina as news coordinators in the coming year. Melina, a UCLA graduate and former swimmer returns for her fourth season with the site. She will be the primary contact for the Western Region. Ossakow, an Indiana University graduate and former swimmer will serve as the Midwestern liason. Dana Kirk, a former Stanford swimmer and 2004 Olympian brings extensive writing experience as the Southeastern news coordinator. Liz Alley and Anthony Randall will target the Northeast. Randall, a freelance writer for Vibe Magazine, competed for Rhode Island while Alley is the first non-swimmer brought on by the site. The former Boston University softball player has spent the past two seasons covering lacrosse for CollegeLAX.ux.
Additionally, Dani Korman will continue as program coordinator for the National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Awards while Susan Woessner, who had served as top times coordinator, will continue with the site but as a national times cross-checker. UC Santa Cruz swimmer Jason Martin, of TimedPrelims.com fame will assist with coverage of Division III swimming and assist Paul Dotterweich in coordinating the Division III poll. Randy Horner, the newly-named head coach at New Orleans and Brad Flood of Bridgeport will continue to coordinate the Division I Mid-Major and Division II rankings. Ivan Manolov, from Yahoo! will continue on as webmaster.
The growth is due, in large part, to the support of TYR Sport, the principal underwriter of CollegeSwimming.com. "We approached TYR because of their reputation for supporting teams," said Greg Earhart, CollegeSwimming.com President. "That support along with the encouragement of people like Matt [Zimmer] and Steve Furniss have been invaluable to us."
Its a relationship that Matt Zimmer, TYR's Director of Team and Promotions echoes. "We're swim geeks too. Thats why we're in this sport." He added, "We knew the right parties were in place to create something special and with the passion that surrounds college swimming in general we couldn't think of a better partner to share our enthusiasm."
CollegeSwimming.com is a not-for-profit website designed to promote and preserve collegiate swimming in America. The website collects news and results, tabulates top times, produces top teams rankings, national swimmer-of-the-week awards, and other features designed to promote the sport teams. CollegeSwimming.com works closely with a small group of underwriters who provide funding.
