.: Boswell Earns SEC Community Service Award

Birmingham, AL , April 5th, 2007

Tennessee's Brad Boswell and Florida softball player Stacey Stevens have been named recipients of the 2006-2007 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship, Commissioner Mike Slive announced Thursday. The two were chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from SEC universities and will receive a $5,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC.

"The Southeastern Conference is proud to honor the achievements of Brad and Stacey and the services they have provided in their campus communities," said Slive. "Brad and Stacey have helped others and made their communities a better place to live through their community service actions. They are fine representatives of their families, their institutions, the Southeastern Conference and intercollegiate athletics."

Boswell is a four-year letter winner for the Vols, serving as team captain this season. He placed second in the 200 medley relay and the 100 backstroke at the 2006 SEC Championships. During the 2006 NCAA Championships, he earned All-America honors with top 13 finishes in the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and the 100 backstroke.

During the 2005 NCAA Championships, he earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 15th place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, 11th place in the 800 freestyle relay and 14th in the 400 medley relay. In the 2004 NCAA Championships, he was 6th in the 800 freestyle relay, earning All-America accolades. Boswell was named to the 2005 and 2006 SEC Good Works Team. He has been a member of the UT Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2004 and has been nominated twice for the NACDA/Coca-Cola Community All-American Award.

The Rockford, Ill., native, has been a volunteer with Toys For Tots, Habitat for Humanity and the St. Jude Hospital Radio Telethon on WIVK-AM. He also read to children as part of Read Across America and the Read-to-Me program. He has also was a leader with the Adrian Burnett Elementary School Walk-a-Thon. He has also volunteered for four years at East Tennessee Children's Hospital, coordinating playing opportunities with patients.

The marketing and logistics major, has also been active with the Camp Rainbow Bereaving Camp, National Kidney Foundation Book Drive and Lift Up America.

In addition, nine other male and 11 other female recipients for the Brad Davis SEC Community Service Award will receive a $2,000 scholarship, provided by the SEC. The other recipients include swimmers Karissa Tuthill (Alabama), Kristen Thibodeaux (Arkansas), Lynnsey Segraves (Auburn), Claire Maust (Georgia), and Kendel Fiorentino (South Carolina).
