A four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection, Kintzer helped UMW to four consecutive league championships and three appearances in the NCAA National Meet. During his time at Mary Washington, the Eagles fashioned a 37-9 overall record and a 27-1 mark against CAC opponents.
"This is a terrific hire for our swim program and our current and future swimmers,†said Holland. “Brent comes to us with valuable experience as a collegiate student-athlete and coach at the Division III level, and he has been very successful at both. His recommendations were top-notch and I am confident that he will help us in our quest for a conference title and national prominence."
Following graduation, Kintzer joined Matt Kinney’s UMW staff and in 2004-05 helped mentor the Eagles to conference championships for both the men’s and women’s teams. That same year, one male swimmer advanced to the NCAA meet, earning All-American honors, while six women advanced to nationals.
Last season, Kintzer served as an assistant swim coach at the Burkwood Aquatic Club in Mechanicsville, Va. His duties included creating and running workouts for competitive swimmers, ages 12-18. He monitored the athlete’s achievements, while developing their swim strokes as well as assisting will all facets of the swim program at Burkwood.
"Swimming and collegiate athletics have given me so much, and are truly my passion. I look forward to working with Dave Holland and the swim program at Randolph-Macon College,†said Kintzer. “He has done a great job building the program, and I have much to learn from him. I come from a program where I competed and coached in Division III athletics, so I have seen first-hand what it takes to achieve success at this level. I hope that my experience can really help the team take the next step and reach new accomplishments."
Kintzer graduated Mary Washington with a B.S. in Business Administration and received his master of science in sports leadership and management from Virginia Commonwealth University in August of 2006.
In a related story, Randolph-Macon's counterpart, - Randolph-Macon Women's College - has announced its intention to go co-ed. The Lynchburg campus been women's-only since 1893. The move will, for obvious reasons (it's named Randolph-Macon WOMEN'S College), necessitate a name change which should make life easier on the CollegeSwimming.com staff which seems to mix up the two schools on a regular basis.
