Meet Results

The University of Bridgeport women’s swimming and diving team captured its first win of the season against Queens College on Friday afternoon. The Purple Knights took first in eight of the 13 events, and broke three UB Team Records, defeating Queens 110-95. Juniors Raluca Duma (Cluj Napoca, Romania) and Aleksandra Byczynska (Warsaw, Poland) recorded two wins each to help Bridgeport to the victory in their home opener at the Wheeler Recreation Center.

In addition, the Lady Purple Knights also received wins from Junior Viki Molnar (Nagyvenyim, Hungary), freshman Anna Zahova (Velingrad, Bulgaria) and both the 200 meter Medley Relay team and the 200 meter Freestyle Relay team.

Duma took home wins in the 800 meter Freestyle and 100 meter Butterfly with times of 9:55.32 and 1:08.10 respectively. Byczynska helped pace UB, winning the 200 meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:32.34 and the 100 meter Backstroke with a time of 1:09.09

Molnar swam away with the 200 meter Freestyle with a UB record breaking finishing time of 2.12.13. Zahova’s debut was impressive as she captured the 100 meter Breaststroke (1:20.56) and placed second in the 200 meter Freestyle, finishing just behind her teammate Molnar.

The 200 meter Medley Relay team of Byczynska, Zahova, Kassie Iadarola (Sutton, Mass.) and Nevena Vatachka (Bucharest, Romania) broke a UB Team Record with a first place finish of 2:13.34. Equally sparkling was the 200 meter Freestyle Relay team of Molnar, Duma, Doris Matosic (Split, Croatia) and Michelle Ronsivalli (Salem, NH) who dominated Queens turning in a record time of 1:58.34.

The UB Purple Knights will next travel to Waltham, MA for the Bentley Invitational on Sunday, October 29, beginning at 10:00am.
