Junior Mary Yarrison (Springfield, Va.) highlighted the first session for the Longhorns by capturing the three-meter diving event with a score of 313.80. Yarrison nearly claimed the one-meter event but Stanford's Cassidy Krug edged her by just over one point.
Texas garnered five NCAA "B" qualifying swims in the eight swimming events. Senior Connie Brown (Andover, Mass.) notched a pair of NCAA provisional-qualifying times after clocking 50.00 in the 100 freestyle and 54.74 in the 100 butterfly. Seniors Elizabeth Tinnon (Bowling Green, Ky.) clocked 2:15.22 in the 200 breaststroke, while senior Leah Avilla (Livermore, Calif.) followed in 2:16.30.
"I'm really, really pleased with the performances we had today," said first-year UT coach Kim Brackin. "The only disappointment was the 400 medley relay at the end because I felt we had a lack of preparation. But, we're leaving excited today, and I want them to continue to step up and look for an opening on Saturday."
The meet's second session begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. Central at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
