Cal won all 16 events, with many Bears swimmers capturing first place in non-traditional specialties.
Sophomore Jessica Hardy, a world-class breaststroker, won both the 100 (51.71) and 200 freestyle (1:52.33) events. Junior Emily Silver, an All-American in the 50- and 100-frees, won the 1000 free (10:16.37) and 200 back (2:06.18).
"What's really important is being able to swim multiple events, different types of events, " Cal assistant coach Johan Steiner said. "It's about understanding pace, understanding what we're working on in practice, putting it into any race situation - that's how it's going to help us down the stretch."
In all, five Bears won two individual events each, with senior Lauren Andrews winning the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.19) and 100 backstroke (56.96), freshman Amanda Larson winning the 50 free (24.42) and 100 butterfly (59.42) and Samantha Young winning the one- (261.62) and three-meter (274.13) springboards.
Other Cal individual winners included senior Erin Reilly in the 200 fly (2:00.36), senior Sherry Tsai in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.84), freshman Heather White in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.74) and freshman Alexandra Ellis in the 200 individual medley (2:06.86).

The Bears D team of Reilly, Tsai, Hardy and Andrews took the 200-free relay (1:36.03) by almost five seconds over the San Jose State A relay (1:41.02). The Cal D quartet of Andrews, senior Annie Babicz, Reilly and senior Nadia Staubitz edged the Cal C foursome of White, Ellis, freshman Courtney Eronemo and Larson by a tenth of a second, 3:58.20-3:58.30.
In diving, all four Cal divers competed today, with freshman Stephanie Whalen taking second behind Young on the three-meter board (222.22), freshman Kristen Duffel taking four on the one-meter board (154.20) and freshman Tessa Berman taking fifth at one meter (152.55).
"For their first home meet, they did really well," Cal diving coach Tom Davidson said. "It was Kristen's first meet ever on the three meter and Tessa did real well in her first time ever on the one meter. Sam and Stephanie had a good meet. Some of the things we have been working on in practice are showing up in competition."
The Bears open Pac-10 competition when they host Washington State at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
