.: William & Mary Men, Towson Women Earn Wins in a Split

Just days after their pool was shut down following an electrical fire, the William & Mary men came out with a close 122-115 win over Towson. The Towson women, led by Senior Liz Lebherz who won a pair of individual events and was a part of the winning 400-free relay won their second straight edging the Tribe 122-117.

Meanwhile, sophomore Jeff Collier (North Cross H.S./Salem, Va.) earned first place in two individual events to help the Tribe men’s team (1-0, 1-0) earn a 122-115 victory in their season opener over the Tigers (1-1, 0-1).

Lebherz earned a victory in the 200-free with a time of 1:52.50 before taking first place in the 500-free, touching the wall in a time of 5:00.34. She also swam the anchor leg in the 400-free relay for the Tigers as Towson finished first and second in the event to secure the victory.

Sophomore Jennie Katch (North Penn H.S./Lansdale, Pa.) earned victories in the one-meter and three-meter diving events, scoring 231.82 points on the one-meter board and 248.85 points on the three-meter board. “I do not believe that we are able to win this meet with Jennie’s performances today,” Tiger Coach Pat Mead said. “She was unbelievable.”

Junior Ashley Lamp (Exeter Township H.S./Reading, Pa.) earned a victory in the 1650-free, recording a time of 17:40.03 for the Tigers.

Making her college debut, freshman Katie Radloff (Yorktown H.S./Arlington, Va.) led the Tribe in the loss by winning the 100-free (:51.81) and the 50-free (:24.37). Senior Kelly Reitz (Great Bridge H.S./Chesapeake, Va.) also earned a victory by taking first place in the 200-breaststroke (2:22.83) after helping William & Mary to a win in the 400-medley relay.

Collier led the Tribe men’s team to its season-opening victory by taking first place in the 1650-free with a time of 16:43.86 before earning a victory in the 500-free by touching the wall in 4:46.38. Sophomore Shawn Matthews (Fairhaven Regional H.S./Rumson, N.J.) earned a win in the 200-free (1:46.33) while junior Nick Duda (Gonzaga H.S./Vienna, Va.) took first in the 100-free (:48.51).

Sophomore Gordon Amato (Mt. St. Joseph H.S./Hanover, Md.) led the Tigers in the loss by finishing first in the 400-individual medley (4:11.71) along with a victory in the 200-back with a time of 1:56.62. Senior Chris Will (Howard H.S./Elkridge, Md.) also earned two individual wins, taking a victory in the 200-fly (1:55.25) and the 50-free (:21.35).

Freshman Bradley Bolin (Temple City H.S./Covina, Calif.) earned a pair of victories by taking first place in the one-meter and three-meter diving events. He scored 205.68 points in the one-meter event while tallying 240.52 points in the three-meter event.

"For the men’s team to be that close was a major accomplishment for us," Mead said. “Bradley definitely gave us a good chance to win the meet with his two wins. He was unbelievable again this week."

The Tigers continue their three-meet homestand next Saturday when they host Old Dominion University at Burdick Pool at 1:00 p.m.
