Somers, WI , November 8th, 2006

The Lone Star state captured two spots in the weekly National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week (NCSW) honors.  Julia Wilkinson of Texas A&M and Rick Berens of University of Texas claimed the Division I awards.  Cara Fadel (Drury University) and Fernando Reis (Delta State University) captured the Division II honors.  Tim McGlaston made it two-straight awards for Washington and Lee University while Lauren Preyss of Case Western Reserve University snapped Leigh Psaris' two-week run of national honors. The six were selected based on their performances October 30-November 5, 2006 by a panel of collegiate coaches and nominated by coaches, sports information directors, conference representatives and CollegeSwimming.com staffers.

Division I

Julia Wilkinson, Texas A&M
So., Stratford, Ont., Canada
Julia Wilkinson led the 9th-ranked Texas A&M women to a 174-125 win over Texas at the State Farm Lone Star Showdown.  Wilkinson started by getting A&M out to a lead in the 400 medley relay with an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 100 backstroke (54.14). Two events later, Wilkinson swam the 100 back again, lowering her automatic qualifying time (54.03), the second-fastest time in A&M history. She then transferred her backstroke success to the 100 freestyle (49.54), just .05 off the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. The four-time All-American closed her spectacular day by winning the 200 individual medley (2:01.17), an NCAA consideration standard.

Rick Berens, The University of Texas
Fr., Charlotte, N.C.
Ricky Berens made a strong collegiate dual-meet debut with pair of victories and NCAA provisional-qualifying times n the 100 butterfly (47.81) and the 200 individual medley (1:48.86). Berens continued his early progress as a collegiate swimmer, collecting his third victory of the meet by posting a NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time in the 200 butterfly (1:48.00).  Beren's swims helped the third-ranked Longhorns to a 204-175 defeat of fourth-ranked Cal-Berkeley and a 210-149 win against #12 Indiana.

Division II

Cara Fadel, Drury University
Sr., Boise, ID.
Cara Fadel's victory in the 200 backstroke highlighted Drury University's weekend at the Mizzou Dual Meet Challenge.  Against four Division I programs, Fadel won the 200 backstroke (2:02.73) clearing the NCAA automatic qualifying standard.  Fadel also finished fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:08.88) turning in a NCAA provisional qualifying time just missing an automatic time by 0.63 seconds.

Fernando Reis, Delta State University
So., Rio de Janerio, Brazil
Fernando Reis led the Statesman against Missouri State.  Reis captured a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying times en route to wins in the 200 freestyle (1:41.82) and 500 freestyle (4:41.06).  The wins weren't enough for the Statesmen who fell to the Division I bears 197-92.

Division III

Lauren Preyss, Case Western Reserve University
Jr., Chagrin Falls, OH
Preyss returned from a back injury that kept the Junior from competiting last weekend.  At the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Preyss took first place in the 50 Freestyle (24.38), 100 Freestyle (52.24), and 200 Freestyle (1:53.07). The swims broke a pair of CMU pool records and another pair of Case varsity records.  In total, Preyss captured a pair of provisional NCAA times (50 and 100 freestyle) and one automatic qualifying time (200 freestyle).  With 537 points, Case finished fourth behind Emory (977), Carnegie Mellon (734), and Johns Hopkins (689).

Tim McGlaston, Washington and Lee University
In a 172-69 win over Mary Washington, Tim set pool and school records while achieving an NCAA "A" cut in the 50 Freestyle (20.66). The "A" cut was the first of his career and broke a 24 year-old pool record set by Joseph Gentile at the 1982 DIII NCAA Championships hosted by W&L. McGlaston also anchored the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:37.12) and led off the victorious 200 Freestyle Relay (20.96) leading to a NCAA "B" cut time of 1:24.02.
