Get all of the conference honors in one place.  Here's a wrap-up of this week's athletes of the week:

America East Conference

Justin Bronson, Maryland-Baltimore County
Bronson was tabbed Men’s Swimming Performer of the Week for the second time in his career after winning all four individual events in which he competed last weekend. He has not lost a race yet this season with eight victories under his belt. Bronson took first in the 100-free (47.04) and 200-free (1:41.23) against Binghamton on Nov. 4, then won the 500-free (4:43.42) and 200-fly (1:55.68) against Colgate on Nov. 5. His times against the Bearcats are UMBC's fastest of the season. Bronson also anchored the winning 400-free relay against Binghamton and the 200-medley relay against Colgate.  

Meghan Sackett, Maryland-Baltimore County
Sackett garnered her fifth career Women’s Swimming Performer of the Week honor with four individual wins over the weekend. She took first in the 100-free (53.56) against Binghamton, then won the 200-free (1:54.31), 500-free (5:05.23) and 200-fly (2:09.55) against Colgate. Her time in the 200-fly is UMBC’s fastest of the season. Sackett also anchored the winning 400-free relay against the Raiders and the winning 400-medley relay against the Bearcats.  

Jeff Salgado, Maryland-Baltimore County
Salgado earned his second straight Men’s Diving Performer of the Week award and the seventh of his career. He swept the diving events at both meets last weekend with scores of 295.20 on the one-meter board and 232.12 on the three-meter against Binghamton and 282.90 in the one-meter competition and 290.62 in the three-meter event against Colgate.  

Ashley Houghton, Maryland-Baltimore County
Houghton also earned her second straight Women’s Diving Performer of the Week award and the sixth of her career. She swept the diving events at both meets last weekend with scores of 257.76 on the one-meter board and 260.78 on the three-meter against Binghamton and 239.54 in the one-meter competition and 255.45 in the three-meter event against Colgate. Houghton has swept the diving events in four of five dual meets this season with nine victories.  

Atlantic Coast Conference

Attila Ruszka, Clemson
Men's Performer-of-the-Week
In the men's competition over the weekend, Ruszka won three events and placed second in another to lead Clemson to a two-point win over South Carolina. The junior from Budapest, Hungary, won the 200 breaststroke and posted an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:51.52 in the 200 individual medley. He was also part of the winning 200 medley relay squad that finished the race in 1:31.84. All of the times were season bests for Ruszka.

Lindsey Marck, North Carolina
Women's Performer-of-the-Week
Marck, a native from Newtown, Pa., led a balanced North Carolina effort as the No. 23 Tar Heels upset No. 17 Minnesota 212-158 and also defeated Richmond 284-86 in a double-dual meet last weekend. Marck was involved in four wins for the Tar Heels, the most of any UNC swimmer in the meet. The junior swept the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events in 57.38 and 2:04.18, respectively, and also swam the butterfly leg on the victorious 200- and 400-yard medley relays for UNC.

Big Ten Conference

Leila Vaziri, Indiana
Women's Co-Swimmer-of-the-Week
Vaziri posted NCAA "B" times in all three of her events as the Hoosiers defeated No. 11 Texas last weekend. The senior placed first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.22) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.07) before taking second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.39). This is Vaziri's fourth career honor and her second this season.

Carlene Takaki, Purdue 
Women's Co-Swimmer-of-the-Week
Takaki swept the 200- and 100-yard butterfly events in weekend duals at No. 20 Notre Dame and Northwestern, all in NCAA "B" times. The senior won the 200-yard events in times of 2:01.48 and 2:01.25 and posted 100-yard finishes at 54.89 and 55.11. This is Takaki's first career honor.

Eric Nilsson, Northwestern
Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week
Nilsson won all three of his individual events and anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took first to clinch Northwestern's victory over No. 18 Purdue on Saturday. The sophomore began the day with a 16-second victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:20.18) before capturing the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.35) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.07). This is Nilsson's second career honor.

Steve LoBue, Purdue
Men's Diver-of-the-Week
LoBue recorded four top-two finishes last weekend as Purdue lost close decisions at No. 20 Notre Dame and No. 8 Northwestern. Against the Irish, LoBue took first in the one-meter (321.60) before placing second in the three-meter (308.70). LoBue set a new Purdue varsity record against Northwestern on the three-meter (377.33) after taking second off the one-meter (326.10). This is LoBue's sixth career honor and Purdue's first of the season.

Amanda Miller, Purdue
Women's Diver-of-the-Week
Miller placed first in each of her four events last weekend, setting a new varsity record in the one-meter against Northwestern (332.33), topping the field by 80 points. The senior took the three-meter by 50 points (331.05) after winning both events against Notre Dame on Friday. This is Miller's third career honor.

Colonial Athletic Association

Melissa Milstead, UNC-Wilmington
Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week
Milstead had a remarkable weekend winning three individual events and swimming on a pair of first place relay teams to help the Seahawks to two weekend victories over James Madison and Towson.  The senior swimmer won the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.05, a season-best, 100y breaststroke (1:08.05) and the 200y breaststroke with another season-best of 2:25.01. Milstead also competed on the winning 400y freestyle relay and the 400y medley relay.

Brooks Wallace, Northeastern
Women's Diver-of-the-Week
Wallace finished first in both diving events at the Delaware Quad-Meet.  The transfer from Boston University scored 262.45 in the three-meter dive and a 264.25 points in the one-meter dive, both season-highs.  Wallace has swept the diving events in her last two meets, the first coming against Central Connecticut last week.

Brian Freitag Jr., James Madison
Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week
Freitag took three individual first-place finishes at JMU’s tri-meet over the weekend with Towson and UNCW.  The junior won the 200y individual medley in 1:55.44 and the 400y IM in 4:04.16.  He also claimed the 200y breaststroke in 2:07.13.  All three times rank as the fastest in the CAA so far this season.

Matt Abbruzzese, Delaware
Women's Diver-of-the-Week
Abbruzzese won both diving events in the quad-meet last weekend against William & Mary and Old Dominion.  The sophomore took the three-meter diving with 284.40 points and the one-meter diving with a 284.90 score.  He scored 246 and 247.65 in the three and one-meter dives respectively against George Mason two weeks ago and then scored 234 and 262 last week against Georgetown, winning all events.  

 

Conference USA

Diane Gu, Rice University
C-USA Swimmer-of-the-Week
Rice claims its first Conference USA Swimmer of the Week award in 2006 after a solid showing at the Phill Hansel Duals in Houston, Texas, at the University of Houston. Sophomore Diane Gu won two individual events and anchored a pair of winning Owl relays at the event.

Anastasia Pozdniakova, University of Houston
C-USA Diver-of-the-Week
Houston’s Anastasia Pozdniakova, another sophomore, wins her second consecutive Diver of the Week award after sweeping both the one- and three-meter diving competitions at the Phill Hansel Duals. Pozdniakova was the only diver to score 300 points in either event

Horizon League

Rafael Candido, Wright State
Horizon League Swimmer-of-the-Week
Candido won the 100 breast (:57.91) and 100 free (:46.53) against Oakland with both performances representing the top times in the Horizon League so far this season. He was also part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams.

Danielle DeGrand, UW-Green Bay
Horizon League Swimmer-of-the-Week
DeGrand's efforts helped lead the Phoenix to the team title at the St. Cloud State Invitational Saturday. She led UWGB with three individual wins while swimming on two victorious relay squads. DeGrand won the 100 backstroke (:59.56), 400 individual medley (4:35.45) and the 200 IM (2:10.14) while swimming on the winning 400 medley relay (4:01.25) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.98).

Chris Dalman, Cleveland State
Horizon League Diver-of-the-Week
Dalman posted a pool record of 375.45 in the three-meter and a 326.70 in the one-meter, winning both events and helping CSU to a team victory at St. Bonaventure on Saturday. He has not lost a diving event yet this season.

Kelly Reese, Youngstown State
Horizon League Diver-of-the-Week
Kelly Reese posted her best scores of the season in exhibition diving competition against Butler on Friday. She scored 245.70 points in the one-meter and 235.95 in the three-meter.

Mid-American Conference
Chris Heaton, Miami-OH
Men's Diver-of-the-Week
On Miami’s season-opening weekend, Heaton broke his own varsity 3-meter diving record against Ball State (Nov. 3) with a first-place score of 344.85, besting the old standard of 342.60. Less than 24 hours later, Heaton shattered the mark once again, as he turned in a first-place and school-record score of 360.00 against Western Kentucky (Nov. 4). In his young career, Heaton has reset the 3-meter diving standard three times, including once as a freshman against Eastern Michigan. Heaton also had the top 1-meter scores at both of last weekend’s dual meets.

Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
TJ Hardy, St. Thomas
Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week
University of St. Thomas junior T.J. Hardy (Chaska, Minn.) was a triple winner in St. Thomas' dual meet on Friday against Carleton. Hardy won the 50 Free with a time of 22.31 seconds, the 100 Free in 50.50 seconds and had a 22.70 lead-off leg in the winning 200 Free Relay.

Becky Alexander, Carleton
Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week
Carleton College sophomore Becky Alexander (Tigard, Ore.) was a key performer for the Knights in two meets this weekend. On Friday, November 3, against St. Thomas, Alexander won the 100 Back in a season best time of 1:01.54 and led off the winning 200 Free Relay with a 25.54 split. On Saturday, November 4, at the Cows, Colleges & Contentment Classic in Northfield, Alexander won the 50 free (25.32) and finished second in the 100fly (1:02).
