.: North Carolina Women Sweep Minnesota and Richmond

Meet Results


The Tar Heel men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams completed the
second day of competition with the University of Minnesota and the
University of Richmond Saturday afternoon at Koury Natatorium.  The UNC
women defeated both the Golden Gophers and Spiders, while the men fell to
Minnesota.



Carolina women finished atop five events, including three relays on the
second day of competition. Junior Lindsey Marck became a multi-event winner
for the second time this season, this time in the 100-yard butterfly and
400-yard medley relay.



Tar Heel freshman Megan Steeves was the other individual winner for the
Carolina women, finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of
51.47.  Fellow freshman, Alison Clemens, also took second in the 200-yard
breaststroke after winning the 100-yard breaststroke Friday evening.



Carolina’s men’s team took home three events Saturday afternoon.  Junior
Ryan Funderburk continued to go unbeaten this season in the 3-meter diving
competition, winning the event and registering a season-high score of
388.40.  UNC sophomore Yi-khy Saw topped the 400-yard individual medley, his
second win of the meet, with a time of 4:00.43.



Tar Heel freshman Jeff James also won the men’s 200-yard backstroke in a
time of 1:49.07.  He remains undefeated in the event on the season.



UNC will take on Duke to open ACC competition on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006 at
5:00 p.m.
