.: UCSD Women, North Dakota Men Top Division II Rankings

Somers, WI , November 22nd, 2006

A pair of Division II heavyweights dominate the first Division II Dual Meet swim rankings of 2006-07.  The University of California-San Diego women and University of North Dakota men occupy the top spots.  For UCSD, it is a familiar spot.  Both men’s and women’s teams swept the final 2005-06 rankings.  North Dakota’s men captured the top spot after finishing last season’s rankings in second.  The CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Rankings uses and objective scoring system to measure a team’s dual-meet strength.

The North Dakota men, who actually have no dual meets scheduled this season, have been led by national record-holder Rodrigo Ferreira.  Ferreira was named the Division II Swimmer-of-the-Week October 25th.  Grand Valley State (3-1) was ranked second.  UC-San Diego (1-3), with this week’s Division II Swimmer-of-the-Week, Tim Fuller, was ranked third.  St. Cloud State and Ouachita Baptist rounded out the top five.

On the women’s side, UC-San Diego maintained their top position from last year’s final ranking. Swimming against a largely Division I schedule, the Tritons are out to a 1-3 record.   The North Central Conference occupies the next three spots.  The North Dakota women, after finishing third last season, sit second while their neighbors to the South – the University of South Dakota – occupies the third spot.  St. Cloud State and Delta State are tied for fifth place.

Two slots in the men’s top twenty five were left unfilled as teams were unable to submit entries by the publication deadline.  Updated rankings with late entries will be posted on the Team Polls page.

The CollegeSwimming.com rankings are based on each team's best dual meet lineup as judged and submitted by participating teams. Rankings are announced four times throughout the season and entries are due on November 14 (Pre-Invite), December 20 (Post-Invite), February 6 (Pre-Conference) , and March 6 (post-conference).
