The No. 4 Arizona women's swimming and diving team defeated the twelfth-ranked UCLA Bruins (4-1, 2-1 Pac-10) Saturday afternoon, improving their record to 3-0 (2-0 Pac-10). The women won 11 total events, downing UCLA 170-127.

Menawhile, the No. 8 USC men downed Arizona State 107-33 and Arizona 75-65.

Senior Larsen Jensen posted perhaps the best swim of the afternoon, winning the 500y free in 4:17.59, an NCAA automatic qualifying time and only a half second off of his pool record set during the end of the 2005-2006 season.

Senior Mihaly Flaskay won the 200y breast (2:00.80, an NCAA `B' cut) to compliment his win in the 100y breast on Friday. Senior Viktor Bodrogi, who won the 200y fly on Friday, won the 200y back on Saturday in 1:45.67, an NCAA consideration time.

"The women's team is a very special group of athletes," head coach Frank Busch said. "They are all business and they know how to get things done as a team. The men swam great as well. We had a lot of effort and everything the men did; they got fired up for it and performed well."

Starting things off for the women's team was junior Courtney Cashion, who won the 50 free with a time of 23.28 and junior Brandy Collins finished third in the race with a time of 23.74. The 200 medley relay team of freshmen Andrea Boritzke, Annie Chandler, sophomore Lara Jackson and junior Lacey Nymeyer won with a time of 1:43.08, tallying 11 points for the Wildcats, while freshman Joni Zimmerman posted a second-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 10:02.67.

Arizona finished in the top-three positions of the 200 free as Nymeyer won the event (1:50.01), Cashion finished second (1:51.78) and sophomore Anna Turner finished third (1:52.73). In the 100 back, the Wildcats again placed in the top-three with freshman Caitlin Iversen finishing first, Boritzke second and sophomore Kathryn Thompson third.

Chandler finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.24, while freshmen Jenny Forster won the 200 fly (2:02.23) and Ana Agy finished second (2:03.52).

Cashion posted her second individual win in the 100 free (50.50), while Turner finished third (51.58). Iversen also tallied her second individual victory in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.27, as Thompson finished second and Boritzke finished third.

Junior Jacquelyn Craft won the 200 breast with a time of 2:16.19 and Nymeyer won the 500 free (4:52.58), while Agy finished first in the 100 fly (55.73). Forster claimed yet another victory in the 400 IM (4:19.37) as Iversen finished second (4:19.48).

On the diving side, senior Megan MacDonald finished fourth in the 1-meter event, while sophomore Allison Scaife finished fourth in the 3-meter respectively/.

The men won four of seven swimming events, beginning with sophomore Nicolas Nilo, who finished first in the 100 free with a time of 44.18. Junior Darian Townsend finished second in the event with a time of 44.58.

In the 200 back, freshman Joel Greenshields finished second (1:48.81) and classmate Bryan O'Connor finished third (1:49.41). Junior Ivan Barnes finished second in the 200 breast (2:01.56), while freshman Jean Basson finished second in the 500 free (4:28.08).

Junior Albert Subirats posted the second first-place finish for the Wildcats, as he won the 100 fly with a time of 47.21 and Townsend posted the third victory as he won the 200 IM (1:49.20).

For the final swimming event of the day, the 400 free relay team of Nilo, Subirats, Greenshields and freshman Jordan Smith finished first with a time of 2:56.90.

On the diving side, junior Matt Bisordi finished fifth in the 3-meter with 304.85 points.

On the day the Bruins won 4 events, and picked up 5 NCAA Championship qualifying marks and 4 NCAA Zone qualifiers.

Junior Nicolette Teo won the 100 Breaststroke for the second consecutive day, swimming 1:03.21, an NCAA "B" qualifying time. Senior Jeana Fuccillo finished second with an NCAA "B" qualifier in the 200 Breast in a time of 2:16.46, while Teo was third, also with an NCAA "B" time of 2:16.48.

Senior Katie Nelson won the 1000 Free for the second consecutive day, swimming 9:56. 92, while senior Jane Imagane was third, swimming 10:04.53. Nelson was second in the 500 Free with an NCAA "B" time of 4:52.48. Junior Shannon Hackett was third in the 500 Free, swimming 4:57.43.

The Arizona men's and women's teams will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 30 ' Saturday, Dec. 2 when they travel to Austin, Texas to compete at the annual Texas Invitational. Preliminary action will begin at 10 a.m. (CST) each morning at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center and finals will start at 6 p.m.
