.: Wingate Defeats Limestone, Pfeiffer

Wingate University junior women’s swimming team member Maria Vlashchenko continued her solid performances, earning two NCAA cuts as the Bulldogs swept a double dual meet Friday night at the Wingate University Natatorium.
Wingate defeated Limestone 53-42 and Pfeiffer 77-18. With the two victories, Wingate improves to 5-1 overall in dual meets this season. Limestone picked up a 72-23 over Pfeiffer. All three teams are members of the Blue Grass Mountain Conference (BGMC).
Vlashchenko won two events, earning cuts in both. She won the 200 Butterfly with an NCAA “B” cut time of 2:09.22. In the 200 Breaststroke, Vlashchenko established an NCAA “A” cut with her victorious time of 2:22.38. Both marks are Wingate school records.Earlier this season, Vlashchenko earned an NCAA Division II “A” Cut in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.18) in a dual meet victory over Howard University. She will represent Wingate University at the 2007 NCAA Division II women’s swimming and diving championships in Buffalo.
Bulldog senior Tiffany Sochurek also won two events. She touched first in the 200 Freestyle (1:59.67) and the 500 Freestyle (5:21.31).
Wingate freshmen Lara Golesorkhi and Samantha Vencl won one race each. Golesorkhi won the 50 Free (25.54), while Vencl triumphed in the 400 Individual Medley (4:50.03). Limestone freshmen Marija Grubic and Courtney Cook picked up two wins each for the Saints.
Individually, Grubic won the 200 Backstroke (2:14.24), while Cook took the checkered flag in the 100 Freestyle (55.15).
Grubic and Cook paired with two teammates to win the 400 Free Relay (3:42.79). Pfeiffer’s only win of the evening was the 400 Medley Relay.
