.: No. 3 Stanford Women Lead Tri Meet Against No. 4 Auburn, No. 15 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. , November 10th, 2006

Meet Results

The fourth-ranked Auburn women’s swimming and diving lead No. 15 Tennessee, 96-71, and trail No. 3 Stanford, 102-65, after the first day of a tri-meet with both schools. The two-day meet will conclude Saturday.

The Tigers posted 10 individual and one relay NCAA provisional ‘B’ cut times during the first day of competition, including two provisional marks by Adrienne Binder, Ava Ohigren and Hayley Peirsol in the 400-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle, respectively.

“I think we had a few solid swims, but overall, we were a little rough,” said co-women’s head coach Dorsey Tierney-Walker. “It has been a while since we competed and it definitely showed. On the flip side, we had some very good performances.

After Binder, Ohigren, Peirsol and Julie Stupp (exhibition) each recorded provisional marks with second through fifth-place finishes in the 400 IM, Binder, Ohigren, and Peirsol swept the 500 freestyle, with Binder taking the event in 4:46.41.

“Adrienne (Binder) swam well in the 500 free and Ava (Ohigren) was solid in the 400 IM and 500 free,” Tierney-Walker said. “I also thought Kara Denby was very good in the 100 free and Alicia Jenson competed well. Overall, we need to be sharper tomorrow.”

In the 100-yard freestyle, Emily Kukors and Denby grabbed second and third place finishes, respectively, with NCAA provisional times. Kukors finished in 50.18, while Denby touched home in 50.89.

Rachel Goh took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a provisional time of 2:00.59, while Goh, Denby, Emile Ewing and Kukors teamed to post a ‘B’ cut in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.41.

The tri-meet consists of three teams competing in a dual-meet competition format against each school. Saturday’s competition will begin at 9 a.m. CT with seven individual events, two relays and one diving competition.
