.: Former Michigan Swimmer Killed

Ranch Mirage, CA , November 10th, 2006

A former Michigan swimmer was struck and killed by a trash truck.  Kara Kaltenbach, a member of the  1995-98 Wolverine teams.  Kaltenbach was struck as she walked behind the backing vehicle. 

Officers arrived to find the pedestrian dead at the scene of severe head injuries, said Riverside County fire information officer Patrick Chandler.

At Michigan, Kaltenbach was a member of the 1995-98 teams that won Big Ten titles. 

"She was not one of the superstars on those teams, but was an integral part of the team," said Michigan coach Jim Richardson.  "She loved to train and was one of those people you really enjoy coaching and you really want to see do well because she deserves that type of success."

The family will greet visitors at St. Stephen Catholic Church, in Saginaw, Michigan from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  with vigil at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Church, with a visitation on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial that will be established in Kara’s name through the Saginaw Community Foundation, 100 South Jefferson Avenue Suite 201, Saginaw, MI 48607 for Heritage High School, or the Michigan Athletic Development Office, Attn: Mary Walker, 1000 S.
