.: Princeton Adds ASU Assistant

Princeton, NJ , May 10th, 2006

Princeton women's swimming coach Susan Teeter, who led the Tiger program to its 16th Ivy League championship this past winter, introduced Phil Spiniello as the new assistant coach of the program. Spiniello, former captain of the Franklin & Marshall swim team, recently completed his second year as the assistant coach at Arizona State.

"We are very excited to welcome Phil to our family," Teeter said. "His experience with Arizona State adds a great component to our program. He is excited to return to the east coast and help us continue the great tradition that Princeton swimming has built over the years."

A 2003 graduate of Franklin and Marshall, Spiniello was hired to coach the Sun Devils in August, 2004. Among his responsibilities were on-deck coaching of all athletes, recruiting, managing/coordinating team travel, budget, entries and compliance issues, and serving as the assistant director of the swim school fall and spring sessions.

Spiniello made his way to Tempe, Arizona, the previous year to begin work on his masters, which he is scheduled to earn in May, 2006. He served a year as a graduate assistant and worked with the recruiting coordinator before being promoted to full-time assistant coach. He also served as the co-head coach of both the Sun Devil Aquatics (USA Swimming Gold Medal Club) and the Sparky Swim Camp. His responsibilities including designing and implementing training plans and teaching technique in all four strokes.

Spiniello has also worked at several other swim camps since his days at Franklin & Marshall, where he served as captain in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003. A three-time letterwinner, Spiniello won the George McGinness Award for outstanding leadership as both a junior and a senior.
