The pencils have been put down, the tests have been turned in and now its time to hand out the grades, and once again some familiar names are at the head of the class. The College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced its Academic All-American teams and Two hundred and seventy five squads (three more than last semester) representing 170 different institutions (one fewer than last semester) made the academic list. Leading the were the women of Macalester College, coached by Bob Pearson. The Scots posted a 3.60 GPA, 0.01 higher than last spring when they led all of Division III with a 3.59. Last Spring the Scots led all of Division III with a 3.59 GPA, but The Scots women's team led the nation with a 3.60 GPA.

The Lincoln College women, second at the NJCAA National Championships, were second among all squads. The Lynx duplicated last fall's 3.59 GPA. The Fairmont State women were top Division II performer, posting a 3.58, while Eastern Michigan's women program, which won it's first-ever MAC Championship, led all Division I programs with a 3.56.

On the men's side, Washington University, which earned a program-high 6th place finish at the NCAA Division III championships, led all men's programs with a 3.49 GPA. Missouri-Rolla, which led all men's programs a year ago with a 3.38, moved up to a 3.45 to finish first among Division II men's programs. Yale led Division I men with a 3.42 GPA while Lincoln led all Junior College men's programs with a 3.26 GPA.
