.: The Moves Continue - Foley to Dartmouth

Hanover, NH , June 22nd, 2006

By now you know the routine, "Today, State College Athletic Director so-and-so announced the hiring of head coach so-and-so" and today it's Jerry Foley's turn. The Bucknell head coach will be heading to greener pastures to become the new Dartmouth women's coach . . . according to an announcement by Athletic Director Josie Harper. The hiring marks the 16th Division I head coach hiring in the past two months.

Since 1998, Foley has headed the Bison program, leading the women to four consecutive Patriot League championships from 2003-2006 and the men to the 2003 title.

"It is with excitement that I look forward to the challenges and growth in the women's swimming and diving program at Dartmouth," said Foley. "Leaving Bucknell was not an easy decision nor was it taken lightly. Therefore, it would take a special situation and the right fit for my family and me. At Dartmouth we found everything we were looking for and I am humbled to be given this opportunity."

A 1984 graduate of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, he earned a master's degree from Adelphi in 1990. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1984-1993, achieving the rank of lieutenant.

The author of numerous articles, Foley is an American Swim Coaches Association Level IV coach as well as a USA swimming certified coach. He was president of the Patriot League swimming and diving coaches from 1999-2005 and a member of the College Swim Coaches and American Swim Coaches Associations.

Before joining the Bucknell staff, Foley was head assistant coach/instructor at the U.S. Military Academy from 1994-98, working with both the men's and women's teams. The Army men won the Patriot League championship four times from 1995-98.

At Adelphi University from 1989-1994, he was aquatic director and head coach while simultaneously serving as co-head coach of the Long Island Aquatic Club. From 1986-89, Foley had experience in Deer Park, N.Y., working as aquatic director and assistant coach for the high school program and head coach for the community-based USA swim program.

Foley replaces Joann Brislin, who resigned to become Dartmouth's assistant athletic director for physical education and recreation.

Foley and his wife, Beth, are the parents of two daughters, Emily, 12, and Caitlin, 9.
