.: Westminster College Splits With Wingate and Rollins

NEW WILMINGTON, PA. , January 8th, 2006

The Westminster College men's & women's swimming teams each split a double dual meet today with Wingate University at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. The Titan men (6-1-1) posted a 66-29 win over Wingate but suffered their first dual loss of the season with a 52-43 defeat by Rollins. The Lady Titans (6-2) also split, easily defeating the host Tars 80-15 while dropping a 57-38 decision to Wingate.

The Westminster men were led by junior Ryan Trunk (Brookline, MA/Cheshire Academy H.S.), who captured both the 100 (48.41) and 200 freestyle (1:50.10) event. The Westminster women were paced by sophomore Becky Giles (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop H.S.), who touched first in both the 100 butterfly (1:02.46) and 200 individual medley (2:14.47). Other Lady Titan winners included juniors Stephanie Peters (Finleyville/Peters Township H.S.) in the 100 freestyle (56.0) and Megan McLaughlin (Wooster, OH/Wooster H.S.) in the 200 freestyle (2:02.08).

The Titan men's and women's swimming teams each return to action next Saturday (Jan. 14) with a non-conference dual meet at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, beginning at 1 p.m.
