Meet Results

The IUPUI men's swimming and diving team won eight individual races and held on for a 156-144 dual meet victory over fellow Mid-Con member Eastern Illinois. It was just the second time in school history that the Jags have defeated EIU. The Eastern women extracted revenge however, with a 171-111 win over the Jags.

Junior Brian Wheeler (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) won three races, moving into second place on IUPUI's career wins list with 28. He easily won both freestyle distance events, while also taking first in the 200 butterfly by a wide margin. Senior Ryan Orzechowicz (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) celebrated the last home dual meet of his collegiate career, sweeping both diving events and adding an NCAA Zone Qualifying score in the three-meter. His winning score of 305.10 points in the one-meter was the seventh-best in school history and the top mark of his career in the event.

In the three-meter, he broke the school record set just last week with a score of 339.22. It was 1.80 points better than teammate Josh Riedy's (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton S.E.) mark set last Friday. It also surpassed the NCAA Zone Qualifying standard of 320 points.

Freshman Matt Levenhagen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) broke his own school record, also set last Friday, in taking first in the 100 breaststroke. His winning of 59.19 took 0.17 seconds off his old record. Levenhagen added another win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.62.

Freshman Richard Dailey (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) picked up IUPUI's other victory in the 200 freestyle. His time of 1:47.77 was a team season-best time. Dailey was also second in the 50 freestyle, just being outtouched with a team season-best time of 22.06. In addition, he was third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.83.

The Jags had numerous other podium finishes throughout the evening. Freshman Eric Hollingsworth (Avon, Ind./Avon) took second in the 1000 free with a personal season-best time of 10:11.99.

Junior Chris Hutchison (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) and freshman Ryan Magner (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger) gave IUPUI a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 butterfly. Hutchison was second with a time of 2:03.30, with Magner third in 2:04.57.

Senior Rob Trame (Syracuse, Ind./Wawasee) finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.17.

Hutchison, Magner and Trame added other podium finishes later in the meet. Hutchison was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.38 and third in the 200 IM with a career-best time of 2:03.73. Trame was second in the 200 IM in 2:02.89 and third in 100 fly in a career-best 55.43. Magner was third in the 500 free in 5:00.15.

Senior Damien Vittorio (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) and freshman Garrett Surface (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) also had third place finishes. Vittorio had a career-best time of 56.33 in the 100 backstroke and Surface a season-best time of 2:06.73 in the 200 back. Senior Kelly Miller (Aurora, Ohio/Twinsburg) celebrated the last home dual meet of her career by winning three races. That raised her career win total to 10 and moved her into a tie for sixth on IUPUI's all-time wins list. Miller swept both butterfly events and also took first in the 100 freestyle, setting team season-best times in all three events.

Her time of 2:11.31 in the 200 fly was fifth-quickest in school history, while her time of 59.59 in the 100 fly was ninth-fastest. She also had a clocking of 55.59 in the 100 free.

Freshman Elizabeth Scott (Nappanee, Ind./Bremen) took both diving events, breaking her own school records in both events in the process. Her score of 245.69 points in the one-meter was 1.58 points better than her old mark, while her score of 248.85 points raised the three-meter record by 2.86 points.

Sophomore Allison Rober (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) had IUPUI's final win of the evening. It was the sixth win of her career and moved her into a tie for eighth-place on IUPUI's career wins list. Her time of 1:08.48 was a career and team season-best, while also being the fourth-best time in the event in school history.
