.: Bentley Falls To Wheaton

NORTON, Mass , January 22nd, 2006

Bentley sophomore Arden Brust was a triple-winner, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Falcons saw their dual meet winning streak halted at eight by Wheaton College, 145-143, Saturday afternoon.

The Lyons, down 139-132 heading into the final meet of the afternoon, took first and third in the 200 medley relay. The Wheaton quartet of Abigail Pratt, Colleen Smith, Caitlin Glover and Courtney Catalano posted a winning effort of 1:44.52, besting Bentley by 1.91 seconds, and the Lyons’ number two relay finished three seconds in front of the Falcons in the battle for third, clinching the meet.

Brust had an outstanding meet for the 8-2 Falcons. She swam the leadoff leg on Bentley’s 200 medley relay team, giving the Falcons a 0.64 second lead before Wheaton came back to pull out the win by just 0.48 seconds.

Brust went right back into the pool, capturing the 100 yard freestyle relatively easily, with a time of 11:11.07. Later on, she captured both the 200 backstroke (2:15.77) and the 200 individual medley (2:17.61).

Bentley’s other multiple winner was freshman Kaitlin Chepeleff. She touched first in both the 50 and 200 breaststroke races, with times of 33.64 and 2:38.10, respectively.

The Falcons swept the diving events with senior Katrina Kaufman posting a winning score of 208.65 on the one-meter and junior Tezzy Bergantz prevailing on the three-meter board (213.15).

Completing the list of Bentley winners was freshman Kristen Thuerk in the 500 free (5:28.81).

For the men, sophomores Bryan Stinchfield and Kyle Reese were each double-winners for the Bentley men’s swim team in a 152-139 loss to host Wheaton College Saturday afternoon.

Stinchfield captured the meet’s two longest races, with times of 10:33.19 in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 5:05.04 in the 500 free. Reese swept the diving, posting scores of 2:21.18 on the one-meter board and 2:20.35 on the three-meter.

As was the case in the women’s portion of the meet, it went right down to the final event, the 200 free relay. Wheaton (10-2) went into the event with a four-point lead and clinched victory with a first-place finish. The Lyons’ time of 1:29.80 was 1.13 seconds better than the Falcons recorded in a second-place effort.

Bentley’s other two wins were posted by junior Sean Osit in the 200 butterfly (2:02.36) and sophomore Ned Krawiecki in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.16).
