.: BYU Women Defeat Colorado 162-128

PROVO, Utah , January 21st, 2006

Kicking off the night with a big win in the 200-medley relay (1:46.86), the BYU women’s swimming and diving team defeated Colorado Friday night 162-128, taking 11 out of the16 events and adding two individual triples from sophomores Angela Goodson and U-Nice Chan.

“Once we won the first relay that just set the tone for the night,” said women’s swimming coach Stan Crump. “The girls swam really good tonight.”

Goodson, a member of the 200-medley relay team, kept her streak alive with two more wins in the 100 back at 57:87 and the 100 fly, touching at 56.88. Chan matched Goodson with her endurance taking first in the two longest events, the 1000 free (10:36.37) and the 500 free (5:11.08). She also came in first in the 200 fly at 2:07.70.

Freshman Leilani Roberts also had a good showing, taking first in the 50 free (24.22) and the 100 free (51.93). She also contributed in both the 200-medley relay and the 200-free relay, adding her best time of the season at 23.61 in the final leg of the 200-free relay.

Sophomore Jamie Bloom added more points to the Cougar scoreboard taking first place in the 100 breast and 1:06.29 and the 200 breast at 2:22.92.

On the diving side, sophomore Angela Nelson brought in a first-place spot for the Cougars on the 3-meter with a score of 285.90, 15.15 points ahead of second place. Sophomore diver Kristin Pitt came in second place on the 1-meter a little more than one point behind the leader at 266.77.
