.: Crippen, Brick Receive ACC Weekly Laurels

Virginia's Fran Crippen touched first in a pair of events as the Cavaliers split with Princeton and No. 11 Tennessee to earn Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week honors, while Florida State's Lauren Brick took the award on the women's side after leading the Seminoles to a win over Miami with a pair of wins of her own.

Crippen touched first in the 1000 free and the 500 free as the Cavaliers lost to No. 11 Tennessee, 108-135, and topped Princeton, 119-91, on Saturday. The senior from Conshohocken, Pa., took medalist honors in the 1000 free in a time of 9:09.09, less than half a second off his ACC-leading, season-best time in the event, and more than 10 seconds faster than his nearest competitor. Crippen swam the 500 free as an exhibition and touched first in 4:28.44, more than five seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Crippen also placed third in the 200 IM in a season-best time of 1:51.19 in the event, which vaulted him from eighth to sixth on the ACC depth chart.

Brick achieved an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 100 breast on Saturday, winning the event with a time of 1:03.12 as Florida State topped Miami, 146-95. The junior from Culpeper, Va., also helped the Seminoles' 200 medley relay squad to a win, as she swam the breaststroke leg on the unit that touched in 1:44.69, nearly 3.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Brick also took fourth place in the 50 free, as she clocked a 24.98.
