Meet Results

Seniors Laura Lunn (Regina, Sask.) and Neil Savage (Roswell, Ga.) as well as sophomore Scott Beard (Chesterfield, Va.) posted two event victories each on Saturday as the Virginia Tech's swimming and diving teams posted a dual meet sweep of UNC-Wilmington at Seahawk Natatorium. The Hokie men downed the Seahawks 139-104, while the Tech women posted their sixth dual meet victory of the year, 147-95.

Beard and Savage led the way for the Hokie men, who won seven of the 13 events against the four-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champions.

Savage posted his best times of the year in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. He posted a 4:40.52 in the 500 free to better his best this season by nearly two seconds. Beard captured wins in the 200 IM and 200 backstroke. His time of 1:53.54 in the 200 IM was a personal best, as well as the second-best time by a Hokie in the event this season.

Sophomore Zac Czaplicki (North Haven, Conn.) swam the school's fastest time in the 1,000 free this year, finishing the event at 9:38.75. Junior Stephen Jensen (Mays Landing, N.J.) posted Tech's other individual win, in the 200 butterfly.

On the women's side, Tech stormed out to a commanding lead by claiming victories in the first seven events. Lunn led the way by triumphing on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. Her score of 292.73 in 3-meter was her second-best score of the year.

Sophomore Jessica Botzum (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a season-best time of 2:08.25 in the 200 butterfly for the Hokies. While Beth Byrum (Spring, Texas), Millie Campbell (Richmond, Va.), Talita Ribeiro (Sao Paul, Brazil), Sara Smith (McGaheysville, Va.) and Mason Walsh (Herndon, Va.) also captured individual victories for Tech. The Hokie women also claimed a pair of relay wins in the 400 medley and 400 freestyle events.

With the victories, the Hokie men improve to 2-5 overall, while Tech's women's team moves to 6-2 on the season. The Seahawks, who are ranked fifth in the country in the mid-major poll on both the men's and women's side, drop to 4-1 (men) and 6-2 (women).

The Hokies will compete in another dual meet at East Carolina, Sunday at noon.
