The gridiron wasn’t the only place Texas and USC waged battle and Connie Brown sparked the Longhorns to a 158½ -141½ win over the Trojans. Brown was the only triple winner for the Longhorns, winning both the 100 Back (56.25) and 100 Free (51.38). Brown was on the winning 200 Medley relay (1:41.90, back 25.80) and anchored the second place 400 Free Relay (3:25.58, 50.42).
Cullen Jones, N.C. State
Irving, New Jersey
Jones was awarded ACC Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week for the third time this season. Jones remained undefeated in the 50 and 100 freestyles this season with wins in both against South Carolina. Jones posted times of 19.77 and 45.08 in the sprint events and anchored the Wolfpack’s winning 200 Freestyle Relay (split 19.06). The impressive swims were not enough, however as NC State fell to the Gamecocks 121-120.
Allison Smith, Indianapolis Smith won all seven events she participated in at the IUPUI Invite. Smith led off the 400 Medley Relay (3:59.90, 1:00.15 split) then won 200 Free (1:56.20) and 100 Back (1:00.49) before lending a hand in 800 Free Relay (8:04.06, split 2:02.07). On the second day, Smith anchored the 200 Medley Relay (1:47.58, split 23.55), won the 200 Back (2:10.25) and led the 400 Free Relay (3:39.51, split-54.23)
Drew Hastings, Indianapolis Hastings had three individual win this past weekend at IUPUI Invite. Hastings first won the 100 Breast (1:00.59) and then the 200 IM (1:55.32). Hastings finished up with a NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time in the 400 IM (4:09.33) and swam third on winning 800 Free Relay (7:13.34).
Lindsey Payne, Williams College
Charlotte, North Carolina
Payne won three events in a win against conference foe Amherst College 171-127. Her first was a 100 Breast (1:03.30) and then the 100 Free (51.85) and the 200 IM (2:05.46)
Norman Scott, Williams College
Elmsford, New York
Scott's win in the 200 Butterfly (1:52.26) is an NCAA ‘A’ qualifying time and broke a 23-year-old Williams school record. Scott also tied for first in the 50 free (22.09). Scott swam the fly leg of the victorious 200 Medley Relay. The Ephs beat Amherst 159-84
