.:  Rigamonti Named Conference USA Swimmer of Week

DALLAS (SMU) , February 9th, 2006

Five-time World Champion Medalist Flavia Rigamonti earned her fourth Conference USA Swimmer of the Week honor following an impressive performance at the 2006 FINA World Cup meet last week. Rigamonti, representing both SMU and her homeland of Switzerland, took home two third-place finishes in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle events.

Rigamonti, along with 14 other swimmers from the No. 9 SMU women's swimming and diving team, competed in the 2006 FINA World Cup meet, Feb. 3-4 in East Meadow, New York.

Rigamonti, representing both SMU and her homeland Switzerland, posted impressive times in the star-filled event, held at Nassau Country Aquatic Center. The senior finished third in the 800-meter freestyle event with a time of 8:26.78 and third in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:08.57. A native of Breganzona, Switzerland, Rigamonti currently holds the school record in 500- and 1650-yard freestyle. She is also the European Champion, an Olympic Finalist and a five-time World Champion Medalist. Rigamonti and SMU will return to the waters for the 2006 C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, Feb. 22-25, at Houston's Campus and Recreation Wellness Center.
