.: Colonial Athletic Association Announces Final Set Of Weekly Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. , February 9th, 2006

The Colonial Athletic Association announced its final set of weekly swimming and diving honors for the 2005-06 season on Tuesday. James Madison’s Josh Fowler won his first men’s swimmer of the week award, while UNC Wilmington’s Dean Berman took home the men’s diving award for the second straight week. In the women’s category, Davidson’s Megan Hollar was given the swimming recognition, and Drexel freshman Kate Hynes was named the top diver.

Fowler swam the backstroke to lead off the 200-yard medley relay, which posted a team-season-best time of 1:34.96. After that, he went on to win the 100 back in 50.95, the second time in his career that he’s been below the 51-second barrier. He claimed the 100 fly in a lifetime best time of 52.29 and won the 200 back in 1:54.94.

Berman set pool and school records on the 1-meter board in UNCW’s win over East Carolina. He won the event with a score of 375.15, smashing records he set last season. He also captured the 3-meter competition with 359.63 points.

Senior Megan Hollar doubled up on breaststroke victories against James Madison and William & Mary, taking first in the 100 with a time of 1:05.64 and first in the 200 at 2:22.34. Plus, the co-captain added a third individual win, swimming a 2:09.51 in the 200 IM.

The Dragon women divers continued their winning ways by sweeping both events against La Salle and St. Francis of PA. Freshman Kate Hynes won both the 1- and 3-meter events with 219.90 and 296.10 points, respectively.
