.: Cincinnati Swimmers Swept By Kentucky

The University of Cincinnati men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams dropped dual meets this afternoon (Feb. 4) against Kentucky at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The No. 17 Wildcat men (7-3) outscored the Bearcat men, 155-96, while the 25th-ranked UK women (8-3) defeated UC, 155-100. The men’s team wraps up its dual meet season with a 5-7 record, while the women finish 4-7-1.

The Bearcat women captured six individual titles, two each by juniors Randi Vogel and Karen Brasier, and the men earned four, led by a pair of victories from freshman Bjorn Mates.

Vogel captured the 200 backstroke title with a 2:03.42 and won the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:07.68. Brasier was a winner in the 100 freestyle, posting a 52.68. She also won the 100 butterfly with a 57.89. Junior Gerdien de Jong won the 50 freestyle in 24.06. The 400 freestyle relay team of Brasier, Vogel, de Jong, and senior Ann Degenstein won the event in 3:30.41.

Mates captured his sixth 200 backstroke title of the season, finishing in 1:51.07. He was also a winner in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:54.71. Senior Ryan Yearwood was a champ in the 50 freestyle (21.01). He also led off the winning 400 freestyle relay team consisting of sophomores Marcel Kleiner, Steve Wood, and senior David Gustavsson.
